The problem of reading jumps do not seem to be equipment problems, but may be caused by the position of the probe. Could you kindly tell us more details and help check it? @chrisb8
@peebee @Bocker Wright PM sent and please check. Please be assured that we will make things easier for you and will do everything we can to prevent you from bearing any kind of loss.

Hi inkbird. The probe was positioned to the side of the fermenter insulated against ambient temperature, something which appears a lot of people do.
I haven't been very active here as of late. The issue has been dealt with by the company I bought it from and they exchanged it for a Mangrove Jack's STC1000. I'm using it exactly the same way in which I used the inkbird but I'm not seeing the same problem. The company were good enough to trust me to send back the inkbird upon receiving the Mangrove Jack's controller so I didn't go without *some* form of temperature control. Thank you for your multiple replies, here, on other threads and in PM, it shows a degree of customer service đź‘Ť I would've replied earlier but I have been unable to. Cheers.

I have to agree with @peebee because I have had the probe both taped to the side of the fermenter and insulated from the air and through a thermowell and have the same issues regardless. I will report back to @Inkbird and see what they can do

It’s complete ********, they work fine for a few months then suddenly the reading starts going haywire despite the probe being in exactly the same position. If @Inkbird where actually interested in trying to solve the problem they might have asked for some of us to send the faulty units in to have a look at but instead they just fob you off. I won’t be buying another one

Hi We would like to tell you that we attach great importance to customer experience and please be assured that we will try our best to help you solve the problem. Could you kindly tell us more details about your Inkbird? PM SENT.

Just checking, I believe that the IB probes are not waterproof, in some cases.
The probe is waterproof, please rest assured.
We often do a regular customer survey. Based on feedback from customers who have used the probe for more than 2 or 3 years without a problem, regular cleaning of the probe is what they have been doing, that's why we would advise other customers to do the same to protect the probes from damage because sometimes some waste in the water/air may stick to the probe and damage it.
We can understand your worries and tensions. If your guys have problem of Inkbird items, please feel free to contact us and we must help you find out the problem and give you a satisfied solution.

Thank you for the response. I’d just like to add myself to the list of users having exactly this issue. I have tried the probe in various places and the temp reading spikes. I’ve even noticed it when the probe is just sitting on the table. I’m worried my fridge is going to get damaged. Thanks again.

That's a bit harsh when Inkbird are literally joining in this thread trying to figure out what is causing the problem. I can't imagine that just giving them a load of shitty attitude is going to solve anything.

Inkbird have kindly agreed to send me a replacement unit, out of the warranty period. The reason they give for the fault is a broken probe. Will report back when the replacement fails

I have sent a video to inkbird at their request showing the temperature reading jumping up and back down again but they have strangely replied saying that this is not a fault... However they are sending a replacement to try which is fair. I can't seem to be able to post the video here.

So they send you a replacement, out of the warranty period, when they don't have to, yet you still can't drop the shitty attitude?

Ey up Bezza, I’ve spent over £100 on these things and each one has failed in exactly the same way. Inkbird claim it is a probe failure yet I have replaced the probe on one unit at their suggestion and it had no effect. They seem to suggest I am using the probe in some manner that is causing it to fail yet all I do is attach it to either a keg or a fermenter left alone in a fridge, hardly an arduous service. There is obviously a fault on these things. Easy for them to ship out replacements and I understand they are under no obligation to do so out of warranty but I would not recommended anybody else buy one given my experience. At least I can get some further use out of the replacement until it fails again.

Hi all,

We are sorry to notice that some members have temperature reading jump problem of our controller. We are not active here, deeply apologize again for the delayed response and any inconvenience that may have caused due to the situation.

We would like to tell you that we are very concerned about this problem. When we noticed this, we immediately contacted the relevant member and asked for more details. We sent the relevant video and description to the engineer to find out the reason. But sorry to tell you that the probe may be broken and caused the reading jumps problem.

We can understand your worries and tensions. The thing that we are doing is to provide the best after-sale service and try to research the better product. Currently, we have set up a special technical team to find and solve this product problem more deeply.

And a suggestion. Based on feedback from customers who have used the probe for more than 2 or 3 years, regular cleaning of the probes is what they have been doing, that's why we would advise other customers to do the same to protect the probes from damage because sometimes some waste may stick to the probe and damage it. Also, if the temperature of the probe location is too high/low, or changes greatly, which will also accelerate the aging of the probe. Hope it is helpful.

We Inkbird can guarantee to use the best materials we can find in the market. We have passed numerous certifications from international quality assurance organizations and refer to these certificates to produce and control quality. And you can see that most of the reviews are positive.

If something wrong with the Inkbirds, we would not prevent your guys from complaining about our product. We will forward this to our product team and try our best to provide better products and services, it is your guy's feedback that makes us better and stronger.

Thank you for your time. And Merry Christmas!

Thank you @Inkbird for your reply, suggestions and for offering to replace my faulty unit. I appreciate the effort you have made to sort out the matter and to provide a detailed response athumb..

I will however say that I have had 2 of these which have had the same issue straight out of the box, no damage, wear or liquid on the probe. So if it is a probe issue then I believe it is from the manufacturing process rather than from misuse or lack of care.

I reported the same issue to inkbird in May on a 5 month old itc308, I did not in the end get any solution, so in the end just extended the time before the cooling cycle kicked in, this seemed to resolve the issue of it starting randomly. But overall I'm not overly impressed

Perhaps send them a message again as they are keen to sort out the issues
