I guess in these times of the revolving door for managers he did well to last 18 months -

Frank Lampard: Chelsea sack manager with Thomas Tuchel expected to replace him

Lampard, 42, leaves with the club ninth in the Premier League after last week's defeat at Leicester City, having won once in their past five league matches.
His final game was Sunday's 3-1 FA Cup fourth-round win against Luton.

Lampard was appointed on a three-year contract when he replaced Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge in July 2019.

The former Chelsea midfielder guided them to fourth place and the FA Cup final in his first season in charge, and a 3-1 win against Leeds in early December put the club top of the Premier League.

However, the Blues have suffered five defeats in their past eight league games, as many as they had in their previous 23.

In a statement, Chelsea said: "This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the board have taken lightly.

"We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as head coach of the club. However, recent results and performances have not met the club's expectations, leaving the club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement.

"There can never be a good time to part ways with a club legend such as Frank, but after lengthy deliberation and consideration it was decided a change is needed now to give the club time to improve performances and results this season."

Owner Roman Abramovich said Lampard's status as an "important icon" of the club "remains undiminished" despite his dismissal.

"This was a very difficult decision for the club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him," said Abramovich.

"He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers."

Being a manager really seems a thankless task nowadays! The best you can hope for is a good severance package

The players and agents have too much power these days a team can easily get their manager sacked our lot did for mancini (see below) it was widely rumoured that Joe Hart didn't like the guy and was a ring leader in him losing the dressing room.

Mancini's last game in charge at the club was the FA Cup final defeat by Wigan at Wembley. The 48-year-old Italian was dismissed on Monday - a year to the day after steering City to the league title.
City's statement said he had "failed to achieve any of its stated targets this year, with the exception of qualification for next season's Uefa Champions League".
But Mancini's problems with players, fellow executives and the board were also major factors in his departure from a post he took over from Mark Hughes in December 2009.

Yeah, agents are just starting to get their claws into cycling (my fave sport) with similar predictable results. Riders suddenly unhappy in their current team then going elsewhere for silly money!!

I hope it never gets as bad as it is in football.

Read somewhere this morning that Abramovich has forked out north of £100m on compo for sacked managers since he bought the club.

I was never one who subscribed to Lampard doing a "great job" at Chelsea. In the season before he arrived they had just finished 3rd in the league, got to the league cup final and won the europa league yet the so called experts seem to think he did wonderfully well to finish 4th last season. Bar Hazard leaving he pretty much had the same squad as Sarri who was derided for his work there. Lampard finished 4th in a season where most of the top teams, Liverpool apart, were pretty poor.

Lampard 5/1 to take over at West Ham 🤣 Not quite sure whoever makes these odds up knows the history there, not sure he'd be particularly well received 🐍

That's said while there's no fans attending games it would work for a while 😁 Not going to happen anytime soon anyway as Moyes is doing a good job.

I reckon 16-1 to go to Palace is a good shout. Wouldn't have to relocate, cant see either the board or Roy wanting to extend his contract which is up shortly and fans pretty despondent with recent performances.
