I've been hop-teain' all my happier brews as of late due to not really having time to dry-hop. All hop teas are added immediately prior to bottling. I currently have a 3 week bottled American IPA, I bottled some of this prior to adding the hop tea for comparison. I'll update with results. Either...
As you can see from the picture, the inside of the kettle is getting quite heavily stained. I'm inclined to be not bothered about it, just wondering does anyone else bother getting it back to like new and if so how do you go about it?
After a brew I'll cover the elements with water and put in...
Why make 23 litre batches? Most kits instruct mixing everything to a 23 litre target so fair enough, but why make 23 litres of your own recipe? I make 25 at a time on a double brew every six weeks which works well for me. At some point in the future I would like to brew more often in which case...
All my brews het 4 weeks +/- 2 days. So yeah. Be careful with dry hopping though. If you want a, for example, four day dry hop then make sure you're organised to package after the four days.
Hi Tim
That was mine. Glad you enjoyed it. I cold steeped the dark malts this time. I've done a very similar recipe previously with the dark grains in the mash. I would say this gives it a smoothness but has maybe resulted in less colour pick up from the dark grains. A bit more bitterness...
Sorry for being so late with this one. I left it til late on Christmas day and it's been hectic since.
Oighear a Rugadh - Irish for ice born. A very nice name!
At 11.3% I expected this to have a strong alcohol flavour maybe a slight burn but it was actually very smooth. I thought it had quite...
Well I've just polished off my first Christmas beer. "Big Ring" which is described as an India Helles Lager at 5.8%.
This is a first for me in both style and tasting another homebrewer's beer. Very impressed I must say.
When I received it I could not see any sediment even after a couple of...
My beers usually spend just shy of 4 weeks in the fv. That's just what works best for me on my work schedule and less time wouldn't do any harm. As its cold outside now i move them outside for a day or two to cold crash. I don't have a fridge and so this doesn't happen in the warmer months. Cold...
That's my two in the fridge. A healthy 11.3% Eisbock and an India Helles Lager. I have never tried either of these styles which makes it even more exciting! Do we really have to wait til Christmas!?
I've found better head retention from more recent brews. The only difference in the process that I can pinpoint is a stronger boil. I've always done a 60 minute boil but would have turned off an element once the boil was going and turned it back on towards the end. But recently I've kept two...
