stop being a selfish tour guide

If I need the post office I will ask people on the way. If i need the bank I will go a certain way I will ask people to direct me. I hope to get directions not sarcasm veiled as knowledge. M

    weird smell( Turnips or cabbage)

It's been over a week (bottled) and I thought I d test a bottle of Geordie Lager, it was a little cloudy but no sediment in bottle. It tasted raw and yeasty, I have put the pint glass away from me but now notice a strong cabbagey/turnipy smell growing stronger. Is it bad,is it toxic?

what comes first crashing or lagering? ( not driving related)

Whoops, no I didn't ramp up the temperature and I did add finings probably a bit too early. I also left it in fridge at about 1c( eventually) for 5 days. (I was exhausted). I bottled into 2l bottles as I haven't got spare brew tub yet. It's pretty damn clear and I'm hoping for a decent result...

what comes first crashing or lagering? ( not driving related)

Thanks ghillie, I may risk secondary in another bin but I'm already attracting fruit /vinegar? flies like crazy and want to bottle asap. I live very close to pubs and their empty bottle bins, how do you cope as a landlord? I used to pop into one of those pubs and it always stank of vinegar I...

what comes first crashing or lagering? ( not driving related)

I seem to have gotten confused, my first batch just about finished so I shoved the whole thing in the fridge to C-crash it. I thought I do this to clarify it pre bottling. But I'm reading people ask how to cc it after lagering. My intention was to bottle after a few days crashing then store at...

    crossover between brewing and fishkeeping

As a fishkeeping I've noticed a lot of issues and similarities in both hobbies, water quality, chloramine, chlorine, tds, alkalinity, hardness and temperature etc. Just about to start second brew and I'm contemplating using aquarium thermo-heater but also considering using a small submersible...

    repurpose first fermentation co2

Thx to everyone for their information and advice and thx foxy for the advice re repurposing the co2. It's hard to believe that 2kg co2 is produced but I suppose that's all the sugar. So why bother with hydrometers and risking contamination why don't we weigh the brew before and after. Next time...

That's interesting a little like making sourdough but not really.

    repurpose first fermentation co2

Cheers David, thanks for your response and advice, I am about to Google lodo. Re: refrigeration of the wort! I must have misunderstood "lagering" I thought I do that after the primary fermentation. I'll read more. Can anyone recommend a good book to look for. I'm striving to brew a stella...

    repurpose first fermentation co2

Im just starting brewing again because I'm skint, last time was 20 years ago. I have a few questions. I'm doing a Geordie Lager which I gather is a pale ale. I'm using a diy airlock because I live close to pubs in town and there's vinegar flies all over. Should I pay more attention to bubbles...
