Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Thank you for your post, it's quite easy to get drawn into the numerous facets of brewing. Most of my beers turn out quite drinkable with minimal water additions. I will attempt to produce this one to the ratio described in David Heath's recipe whilst keeping an open mind. Thank you and stay...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Thank again, I've been in touch with a local Micro Brewery who had their water tested last year so now have a ball park figure for both sulphate and chloride. I've got a better idea of what I'm doing. I read Steve's post too. Cheers guys.

Many thanks for your reply. If I stuck midway with your figures then I should be there or thereabouts. Regarding the Bru'n Water, are you able to post a snapshot of the spreadsheet so I can see which values you populated please? Thank you.

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

My next brew is a NEIPA which requires water profile of 3 to 1 chloride to sulphate. Having only used your thread for guidance I'm struggling to get my head around the above. If my alkalinity is typically 35ppm and my calcium 20ppm (Isle of Anglesey water) Is someone able to tell me how much...

    40 pint plastic pressure kegs

I'm currently using a S30 cap which doesn't have the band, however, tomorrow I will be using a cap as described above. So to release pressure do I pull up the band slightly to expose a vent?

    40 pint plastic pressure kegs

Thanks for the reply. I have fitted a different cap, one which can take C02 bulbs, should I go with the original as described by yourself initially and change to the C02 at a later stage? I will look at changing the tap once I've gone through this brew.

    40 pint plastic pressure kegs

I have been using these for a while, some are better than others for keeping their pressure. What I have found is that whilst carbonating for 2 weeks in my FV at 20C after approximately 7 days the beer drips from the tap due to excess pressure in the keg. What I have been doing is releasing...

    Storing hops

I have bought a small vacuum packer to pack my hops into smaller quantities, however before I do, for those that freeze them in larger batches and want to use say half of one frozen batch is it easy to take say 20g out of a batch of 50g, or do they clump together? I mostly use pellets. Thank...

Funky smell 25 litres down the drain

I've just stuck my head in the bin and the first thing that comes to mind is soured milk. I left it to ferment for a few days and if anything it was getting worse. I even placed a sample in the fridge to chill.

Funky smell 25 litres down the drain

Hi guys. A week ago I made a simple London Bitter using only maris otter and some crystal malt. Equipment used was the Ace microbrewery. After mashing for an hour at 66C (as the recipe requested) I mashed out at 75C for 10 mins and sparged with water at approx 75C. Due to being called out I...
