I was going to call any pub I owned “The Jim”.
Not a tribute to any famous Jims (or infamous ones), but to enable the clientele to tell their wives/husbands/work colleagues/Puritan friends that they are “going to The Jim”. The deception would be complete if the pub goer is carrying a small...
I’m quite partial to over-carbonated beer myself. Means you get to taste it again when you belch it up...
I’ve just drunk one of the DDH Jaipurs. Quite cloudy, very pleasant, but maybe not a taste orgasm. Second opinion will be over the weekend.
Perhaps Thornbridge have realised that Jaipur’s lost its novelty value, and has been overtaken by more powerfully hopped brews which appeal more to our altered palates. This could be why they’ve introduced this Jaipur DDH (Double Dry Hopped). Same recipe otherwise, they say, just does exactly...
Yes, me too. Everything I do is at 1600W. I had just finished the sparge, and was heating up to boil. I’d gotten to 84 degs when she blew. I was then obliged to do the boil in my biggest saucepans on the hob!
One thing I’d noticed after the previous 2 batches was that the plug would not come...
A fortnight ago my 16 month-old Bulldog, after 23 batches of faithful service, blew when the 24th was heading to the boil. The problem focused on the plug and socket at the back of the brewer, the plug having melted in the socket, thereby shorting it.
This kind of reinforces my impression...
I’ve brewed a couple of batches in recent months, using Endeavour & Olicana in equal measure. Both batches tasted good, but the second one was better on the nose because I slipped 10g of Cascade into the dry hops.
Both had a light malt base and Magnum as a bittering hop. Liberty Bell was the...
A couple of months back I had my first ever flat batch. I always put measured sugar into each bottle but this time I hadn’t slooshed the sugar into the beer while bottling in a misguided effort to cut down on oxidation.
I googled a solution to that problem which was: Turn each bottle upside...
For any country to leave they would presumably need at least 50.1% of the electorate in favour of it. According to the last opinion polls I saw, the highest Leave count was in the Czech Republic where only 34% thought it a good idea. Italy, often cited as wanting to leave, only had 28%. The...
After drinking: a good rinse, shake & drain. Then a visual inspection (my bottles are mostly clear glass). If any stains are visible inside, then a few hours soaking with a thin bleach/water solution (1/20), a bottle brushing and a thorough rinse.
Before bottling: a few mins soak in VWP...
