    Brewery visits

Yep, they do a good tour, they have some interesting history, you get to meet the dray horses and the tour ends up in the cellar bar where you can pour and drink as much as you can manage from around 10 beers in the last 45 minutes!

    RO Filters

Yep, the cheapest of the three is what I have, it's served me well for years and over 30 20l brews. I check occasionally with a Salifert kit and it's still performing very well. I use wholly RO and add the minerals back I want. Last week it took 9hrs to filter 36l so you may need to run it the...

    Cheapest no rinse sanitiser

Yep, spray bottle is your friend here. Get a decent one, preferably made for chemical use a cheap garden ones can corrode inside. I spray all surfaces and parts of my ss fv as I reassemble it after a thorough clean in PBW or similar and leave until my next brew. Before I put the wort in it...

    Confused about flame out additions

I think usually it's supposed to mean throw them in as soon as you've got to the end of your allocated boil time and chill immediately. The wort will quickly get below the temperature to extract bitterness and stay longer in the range to extract the fragile flavours and aromas without these oils...

    Munich/Vienna base malt

Tasted good to me and definitely will be one I brew again.

    Munich/Vienna base malt

I stand corrected, it wasn't 100% but it can be. Dumbo Lager

    Munich/Vienna base malt

I made a fantastic Vienna Lager inspired by Brooklyn Brewery's non-traditional dry hopped recipe. Vienna was 100% of the grain bill.

    #52 Voss Kviek Pale Ale

Yesterday was the second time using CML Voss and both times sprinkled in 2.5g straight in and it gets to work with fury! According to the tech spec adding oxygen is unnecessary and rehydrating will lower viability, so if it keeps things simpler, why not. Love my Braumeister! Tempted to get one...

    Rauchbier idea

I've not brewed one before but do enjoy a bottle of Schlenkerla occasionally. Its definitely an acquired taste, its a bit like drinking a barbecue! I would say it does call for a generous amount of smoked malt, but I believe different types of smoked malts (e.g. peat, cherry, beech) have...

    Kveik

Just put on a homegrown First Gold (almost) single hop using CML Voss, didn't add any extra O2, just sprinkled 2.5g in dry at 35c and it was properly bubbling the blow off within 6 hours. Hoping any citrus character compliments my hops.

    What did you brew today?

Hit great efficiency yesterday thanks to dropping my mill gap down to 1.0mm. 19.5l at 1.055 and the Voss bubbling away after only 6hrs!

    What did you brew today?

I'm brewing my first AG in almost 6 months today. Due to covid restrictions putting a virtual halt on my business I've had to take on temporary warehouse work and that's left me with not enough energy to devote a whole day to brewing properly, until now. I'm having to scratch around for...

    Priming 500ml flip top bottles

Yeah, the way I sanitise the bottles means they're never dry anyway. I've given up using DME because it clogs up at the very mention of moisture, I don't think the difference in sugar source makes any noticeable difference in taste to me. I imagine after a full batch of bottling even caster...

Anyone mad enough to grow their own hops?

So I'm actually going to use some of my hops from last year in a brew today, I have 191g of First Gold, all from a single plant trained to three bines, dried in a food dehydrator and CO2 flushed, vacuum packed and stored in the bottom of the freezer since September. I'm having to scratch...

    Priming 500ml flip top bottles

I do sugar after but only because I usually bottle the few that don't fit in the keg so I'm never sure exactly how many bottles I'll need and don't want to be washing up sugary bottles unnecessarily!
