Kettle (isn't) Sour - Despite PH of 3

Using S-05 at 19C. Was going to up the temperature by a degree or so in the morning as that makes it five days since pitching.

Kettle (isn't) Sour - Despite PH of 3

Okay that's a little more promising then. OG was 1.038 and expected FG is 1.008 so a way to go yet but assumed I'd be able to at least taste a notable difference. Would have waited a touch longer to take the sample but dropped my ispindel before the brew and so it seems skewed the calibration...

Kettle (isn't) Sour - Despite PH of 3

Calling out to those who know more 💪 I love drinking face scrunchers and so decided on my first kettle sour using Lallemand Helveticus as my Lactobacillus strain. It's pretty much the only option available to me, not having anywhere near enough room for dedicated sour fermenters so I was really...

    WildBrew sour Pitch??

Old thread but can anyone remember how they got on re pitching rates? I'm using Helveticus in a kettle sour tomorrow and whilst the advertised pitching rate is 2g for 20l , Ive seen videos etc of people using the whole packet so I'm a tad unsure. I don't particularly like the idea of weighing...

Impy Stout Efficiency - Sparge Water

That's a great video - not sure I've stumbled across his page before so I will have to follow - thanks! I've considered doing a reiterated mash before on my BZ as it seems handy/straight forward if running out of mash tun or grain tube. But I still don't think I understand just what the water...

Impy Stout Efficiency - Sparge Water

Afternoon guys and girls I've been struggling to get above 8 percent on my Brewzilla since the efficiency plummets above 5kg of grain but in a couple of weeks have the chance to use an 80L mash tun. For the sake of comparison (and because I love big beers) I want to give another imperial a shot...

    Efficiency

But where is the line drawn because is more grain not a stickier mash and does a stickier mash not result in poor efficiency? Yeah lucky with the HB club too. It's a converted business unit/mutual brewing space with lots of decent kit which I wouldnt otherwise have access too. One of the other...

    Efficiency

What if you're not chasing the kit ABV but that of Brewfather or similar? Should I be adjusting the brewhouse efficiency depending on the grain bill perhaps? Using the brewzilla I get about 70 until the bill closes in on 5kg after which it plummets to low 60s. Short of doing a reiterated mash...

Cold Crash - lifting out of fridge vs raising fridge

I leave mine where it is and use one of those cheap solar pumps that you see everywhere into a bottling bucket sat on top of the fridge. Think it would bother me cold crashing for a few days and then mishandling it afterwards - they aren't light! Would then also be unsure as to where the 'let...

Mini Keg - Not holding pressure?

Checking whilst empty is a good point - not something I thought to do.

Mini Keg - Not holding pressure?

I've heard of some people disliking vaseline for fear of drying the O rings out, instead using keg lube which is more expensive. I'm quite liberal with it tbf but again I've no idea whether that's right or wrong - I just do it because I'm fed up of the product being such a pain. When I spoke to...

    Cold crashing sucks

    He isn't kegging.

    Cold crashing sucks

But you will have to open it again when racking or bottling? So the vacuum will then suck the oxygen in regardless.

    Cold crashing sucks

I cold crash but am always far more concerned about the intake of oxygen than sucking some starsan into the brew which I dont believe would be detectable? Actually ordered a plaato valve today but more out of curiosity than anything considering the low price point and free worldwide shipping...

    Oaked Vanilla Milk Porter

Hey I've just ordered some medium-roasted american oak chips since I'm yet to have tiptoed down this road and now need a recipe that suits (I like to do things the wrong way round). I've not been brewing long enough to feel comfortable putting my own recipes together but do fancy using some...
