What's the most you've paid for a beer?

I think that beats mine with 7 years inflation :D Prague sticks in my memory for so many reasons. It's my reason for brewing, my love of beer and my love of the city among other things. I've been back but never managed to end up over that part of the city again. Maybe I will some day. I...

What's the most you've paid for a beer?

I honestly can't remember, I went on Google Maps to try and find it and while I found the Olympic Stadium easy enough, I couldn't find the bar or the accommodation we stayed in. Needless to say when we hit the city centre, prices soon went up but in 1995 I think it averaged around...

What's the most you've paid for a beer?

We were told not to have a beer in one of the many restaurants around Bergen Harbour. Of course the numpties we are just hit the first place we came to (which was on the harbour.) £13 a pint and this was 15 years ago mind you. The average price was £7 in most bars but as we were following...

    Deep fried sprouts.

I love my sprouts but missus GM stews them to death. There's always a bag in our freezer as it's the only veg my missus eats. I'm sure their fermentable? Has anyone made a Sprout Wine?

    Life after PECO ?

Not in 6 brews but it was only meant as an experiment. The pump isn't heat rated or food grade but I can't see any problems with it. If it does pack in I'll buy something that has both those qualities. I'm using BIAB and recirculating the wort beneath the bag so not much grist is travelling...

    Life after PECO ?

I bought a small 12v water pump from China for a fiver and recirculate the wort during the mash stage. I have the digital version of the Peco boiler and it holds the temperature very well. My next move is to replace the tap so I can attach the pump directly to it. A Grainfather (while I want...

    RO system

Sorry for the late reply, yes Johnny. I had a Waterfed pole for Window Cleaning around 10 years ago and regularly tested the water. It was 10ppm at home but as low as 5ppm around other parts of Belfast. A TDS meter costs £10. I bought the machine off a guy in Edinburgh and he also had...

    Guinness Clone

I did use a Liquid Irish Ale yeast with a kit I done when I first started but I didn't really notice any difference. I must try it again, thanks for reminding me. I'm gonna brew a Black Lager over XMas but I may stick on another House Stout and change some to of the suggestions like the WLP004.

    Guinness Clone

Next time your in a pub, ask your server to pour it right up to the lip. Don't let it settle. I'm serious on this. You will pour the perfect pint btw unless the pubs pipes are set too high. This let it settle for 4 minutes is just a ploy to make the drink seem more special.

    Guinness Clone

100g of Acidulated Malt gives the twang. I also love Guinness but I've stopped trying to replicate it, instead using my House Stout base and just tweaking each time: 3kg Base Malt (Irish Stout Malt when available) 1kg Flaked Barley or Rolled Oats (Oats work very well and give a more mellow...

    R.I.P Heinz Wolff

I have a real passion for science and astronomy. I put it down mainly to the late great Carl Sagan but Heinz Wolff and the Great Egg Race and Johnny Ball's Think of Number had some bearing on that choice. RIP indeed.

    New Laptop?

A brewing forum is not the correct place to ask this question, just as you wouldn't ask a brewing question on a laptop forum. In saying that I think you know most of what you need and you could easily get your requirements on that budget. One of my homepages is set to Hotukdeals. When I'm...

    Particles in my homebrew

Hi Drswoz, With these Chilly nights, so long as it doesn't freeze, leave your FV outside and cover it (so it doesn't get damaged/ lid blows off etc). Leave it there for 2-3 days and then bring the beer in to bottle while the beer is still chilly. This will cold crash the beer and particles will...

    Fermenting lagers outdoors?

I have been cold crashing in this weather and it's been working a treat, it just got me thinking about trying a lager. I'll probably have a go at this over the XMas period maybe trying a Czech Black Lager.
