    The big question.

We were bankrupt as a country, there was a cost of living crisis, power outages, corrupt politicians, fears of global confict and major unrest in the middle east, right wing papers spouting about immigrants, NHS staff out on strike, people "remembering" how much better it was 30/40 years before...

    The Post Office Horizon Scandal

This was a PO system - so they are ultimately responsible for it and the consequences, provided Fujitsu did not hide the bugs. Quite possibly PO management were told in a way such that they did not fully understand what they were being - but we're too blind/stubborn or proud to admit this. Why...

    The Post Office Horizon Scandal

If this is truly so then the fault is 100% with whoever decided to go live and this has to 100% be the PO. PO is responsible for paying compensation to the postmaster period.- If Fujitsu hid evidence of bugs the PO could claim (subject to the contract claim funds from Fujitsu ). If PO were...

Ulez expanded to include whole of outer London

Not that I have any love for the Tories, (or any of the others for that matter), but after 13 years of Tory government we have EXACTLY the same public transport we had at the end of 10+ years of Labour. Governments of ALL parties are London-centric

Ulez expanded to include whole of outer London

ULEZ charges effectively represent an additional charge to visit the national capital and seat of government - how democratic. Unlike London residents who already have subsidized public transport schemes (most of the rest of the country does not even have viable public transport let alone...

When is a heart attack not a heart attack

If it's the coffee it's more likely to be the **** and additives they bulk it out with. Always drink low to med roast quality coffee and you should be fine. Most coffee in the UK is so weak and low in caffeine content it's unlikely to be that. And remember 'strong dark roasts' are lower in...

    In my opinion today

Not any more. At the top level they all top level athletes - and generally too fast to stop for fisticuffs.

Asda has cut the cost of petrol and diesel.

A happy Xmas to Roberts Essar petrol station at Grindley Brook near Whitchurch - unleaded currently 130.9 , diesel 150.9 - has been consistently the cheapest I've seen all year

    Free Scotland

Cos I know it will cost mein the pocket. As for getting fleeced by the UK government - welcome to the world of the English who live outside of London - and we don't get free prescriptions, university etc.

    Free Scotland

Err. Don't think we had a truly English dynasty as monarchs for best part of a millennium. We've imported French (Norman's and Plantagenet) , Welsh Tudors , Scottish Stuart's , the Dutch House of Orange, Hannovarians etc, the current lot had to change their family name a century ago. Truly a...

    Electric cars.

The main problem is with the use of the words "a lot". We live in what is designated as a large commuter village - there are no buses at peak commuter times and the advice is to travel outside of these times.

Anyone watching the Rugby League World Cup?

Then again would that be the case if (Fiji excepted) their best players didn't end up in the All Blacks team ?

    Sport and dementia.

That was not an accidental helmet to helmet hit. Garrett literally pulled Rudolph's helmet of his head and hit him with his own life. Brown Steelers a couple of years ago

    Sport and dementia.

A Sending Off (Red Card) would be called an ejection in American football. (My favourite in recent years was Myles Garrett ripping off Mason Rudolph's helmet and hitting him with it)
