@ Hops_and_Dreams (Lagering using a picnic cool bag)

Hi MyQul. I don't know I'm afraid. I tried a pint of my cascade smash the night before and it was quite hoppy at room temp, thought I'd try it cold so put some ice blocks and the keg in the bag the next morning and left it all day. It wasn't fridge temp cold, but it wasn't far off. My...

    What are you drinking tonight?

I had that feeling where I didn't fancy any of my beers tonight, so stopped by waitrose on the way home and picked up these: Proper Job (never tried this for some reason) Oakham JHB, Scarlett Macaw, Bishops Farewell (really like their beers, apart from the Citra, which is ****) Jaipur IPA Hop...

    Everyones next planned brew?

Finally getting my Citra/Mosaic IPA on this weekend. Been saving it for the summer. I'm hoping summer will actually arrive by the time it's ready.

    OK, admit it...

It's been nearly 4 weeks since the last brew day, I've got one pencilled in for Saturday and I can't wait! I thought that the novelty might have worn off a bit by now after 18 months or so, but I still love it and been looking forward to brew day all week. Anyone else still get this, or...

    Ok.....i need you all

After a couple of practice runs, AG is easy so give it a go. You'll be surprised how good a beer you can make, even with some basic equipment.

What's the easiest way to clean an FV?

As above, oxi clean and warm water as soon as it's empty, then rinse with hot water, keeps it nice and easy. After, remove the tap and nut and soak in oxi clean, as **** gets stuck in there sometimes. Dry and store away. Just rinse with star San on brew day.

    FAO All Grainfather Users

Hey Slid. Yeah, my impulsive thinking was mostly driven by the dent I made in a mini keg on Friday night. I don't really need one and so can't justify the money, where it could be used on more important things (well, in the eyes of SWMBO). I must admit that I've been following your posts and...

    hop schedule

I normally do this for my hoppy beers and find it works well: Xg 60min (depending on what IBU you want) 25g 20min 25g 5min 75-150g 0min (cool to 80c first) 75-150g Dry hop I think you'll get more flavour/aroma from the late hops, so I'd focus on them for this style.

What's your least favourite thing about brewing?

You won't cock it up, it's easier than bottling (and beer tastes better out of them). They're great for bbq etc as you say and look far cooler than bottles or cans!

What's your least favourite thing about brewing?

Yeah, that's the drawback of them - 5ltr of the same beer. Although I find that it's ok as one lasts me a couple of weekends, so that's only really up to 4 pints at once.

What's your least favourite thing about brewing?

Start putting your beer in mini kegs. No one would want or expect you to give them 5ltr of homebrew (probably).

    Bottling the bottling

I enjoyed bottling to begin with. The novelty soon wore off.

    geterbrewed.

Not sure about your GF filter, but with the bazooka filter on my pot I find that if I leave the wort to settle for 15min after chilling, the hops sink below the level of the filter and flows ok, up to the last dregs. If I don't let it settle, exactly what you describe happens and filling the...

2.30am and just getting ready to pitch yeast

Can't remember the last time I stayed up til 2.30! I normally brew on SWMBOs Saturday at work, when I've got the house to myself and start first thing to avoid drinking related mistakes!
