    Demijohn cleaning.

I use dry rice. Always get a pretty good result. Just pass it through a strainer/sieve when rinsing the demi john

    Wine bottle tops

Happy New Year all ! I'm not keen on using chemicals in my wine to stop fermentation and in the past have used special wine bottle tops that have a little rubber covered "prong" ion the top (a bit like the demijohn ones but for wine bottles) I'm down to my last two and cannot find...

    Kombucha -healthy brewed tea

I grew quite a bit of this many years ago having purchased the starter I had a little fermenting cupboard at the time (well a tiny heater in the airing cupboard - not enough to air the washing but it worked a treat on the Kombucha) I kept it in an ice cream tub and it used to reproduce like...

    Demi John cleaning

Long grain rice works well too and acts as a scourer. When emptying just pour the water through a sieve so the rice doesn't clog your sink. Buy value stuff and it's not too expensive to be throwing away. Doesn't sterilise obviously but does help get rid of those stubborn collections inside...

Supermarket juice wine and Wurzels orange wine

Hi Alibro. Could I ask please what the finished alcohol was?

    The science of stabilising...

Hello Andy. I'm new here so won't offer advice re stabilisation (although I was under the impression that campden sterilises and potassium sorbate stabilises?). Re the demi john issue. They are expensive but if you were to buy a £1 5litre bottle of water from a supermarket you could empty the...

    sweeting wine

I used Truvia Sunday to backsweeten a bottle of Fruit tea wine that grandaughter and I have prepared for her mum's birthday. Worked as a sweetener quite well I think, but does seem to have made it a little cloudy. I am going to look at it again tomorrow (do a wine glass comparision between this...

    RECIPES

Thanks for replies both of you. No particular recipe LL, I just thought since it said "Recipes" I'd be able to browse through it for wine making ideas.

    RECIPES

How does one get a recipe please. All I get is a long list with peoples' names and they seem to be the only thing that opens and doesn't show an actual recipe. I am obviously missing something here (apart from a brain!)

    What to do next?

I've not long made the "Ribena" wine (in my case Tesco's own brand as it is 50% juice unlike actual Ribena). I boiled mine for 15-20 mins and it's bubbling away merrily so that was why I asked. As you no longer have the carton for the cranberry you won't be able to check to see if it says...

    What to do next?

Did you "heat" the ribena Paul or did you boil it off for 15-20 mins to get rid of the preservatives. Were there any preservatives in the other cartons/bottles you used?

    GRAPE JUICE IN A CARTON

    GRAPE JUICE IN A CARTON

Thanks for the reply Mark. I had already seen the link but the cartons I am talking about are the ones on the fruit drinks section, ie not the fresh refrigerated ones. Logically I'm thinking that if you can make wine from a bottle of Ribena with all the preservatives in then it should be...
