    Campden Tablets versus Campden Powder

Ah, that's an excellent suggestion! Although I'm not sure if it is too suspicious getting a kilo of white powder delivered to your door? ;)

    Campden Tablets versus Campden Powder

Anyone else tried the Campden Powder from Ritchies instead of the Campden Tablets from Youngs? I was fed up crushing those tablets (always losing half of it on the floor or in the corner of the kitchen top) and found a shop that sells Campden Powder instead. Works a treat for me! I don't think...

    Leyland Home Brew

Good recommendation, they seem to have a lot of choice. I usually go to Stirling Homebrew Shop or order online from them, much cheaper postage than most shops and very friendly too. They also stock Ritchies and Simply instead of Youngs, which seems to give me better results when making beer.

    Mead tastes like cough syrup?

Excellent, thanks. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'll probably leave it for another year unless I get a sore throat, in which case I can use it as an a treatment with pleasant side effects :-)

    My thermometer is stuck!

No it's probably not what you think :-) I've got two thermometers and haven't used them for a while, but now the red bar has split. I've tried a lot of suggestions I found online, but some of the red liquid inside is still stuck at the top, so it never shows the correct temperature. I don't...

    Stirling Homebrew Shop

I'm lucky enough to have a local wee home brew shop nearby called 'Stirling Homebrew Shop'. They sell home brew stuff online as well and they are cheaper than a lot of other online shops. Although most of my wine is from fruit from the garden, I do buy my beer kit and other accessories there.

    Hi from Stirling, Scotland

Hi All, I'm fairly new to home brewing, so I'll first have to soak up the knowledge available here, before I can contribute to anything. Most of the wines I make are made from fruits from my garden. Elderberry/Bramble wine is my favourite (especially in Winter). I also occasionally make beer...

    Mead tastes like cough syrup?

Hi all, I'm a new member, so I haven't had a chance to read all the posts to date yet :-) I've made a Mead a year ago and I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately it tastes like cough syrup and has a very medicial flavour. I used 2kg honey to make 1 gallon of mead. I'm not sure what...
