Bought a Coopers Draught Beer kit and as the usual coopers instructions on the side of the tin are awful i researched online about temps etc for this beer...
I got conflicting results some saying 'Try to start the ferment at 22C and allow the brew temperature to drop down to 13C - 15C over...

started a 'coopers australian pale ale 3 days ago... temp has been between 65-70 all that time.. I just wondered is the head from the fermenation usualy less on ales? as the last kits ive brewed the heads from the fermenation were touching the top of the fermenation bin. This one...
ah ok.. tbh I was surprised how well the festival ale kit came out... very nice... I have tried a few that failed.. Geordie kit which tasted awful and I promised my self never again.. one young's kit that turned out like water... perhaps it was luck and possibly the time of year i.e...

when carbonating .. the 2 kits I have used it would seem have underestimated the amount of sugar needed to carbonate the bottles. they both said use '1/2 level teaspoon of sugar per pint'
but when using the brewers friend saying I should I use 2, 4g sugar lumps...

So since bottling my Geordie ale kit. I decided to start up another I bought some time ago its the young's pilsner lager kit..
every thing went to plan until like an idiot :( instead of adding 1.5 kg of sugar I added 1.6kg or perhaps a wee bit more ...

thanks for the info terrym much appreciated :) i have tested the bottles and only plan to use them once or twice before getting new ones.. the screw top is a wee bit worrying as it only turns 2 and a half times before nipping up.. but after opening for the first time i have shaken the bottle...
ahhh took a hydrometer reading and it came in at 1012 which backs up the refractometer adjustment you mentioned i got on brewers friend perfectly... going to just use a hydrometer from now on.. so 1012 is where it should be i assume after 4 days :) sorry for the confusion terrym., still...

so the 1.036. reading is too high for 4 days? sorry very new to this, this is my first kit.. if it is too high when something has went wrong ?

i just took the second refractometer reading from my brew which is now 4 days old.. the first reading taken a day after starting was - 1.050.
The one i took today was - 1.036.
its dropped by enough? when taking a sample i seen that the fermentation top has died down alot by around...
