    What style?

I didn't know that. I think I'd plumped for a style, and was within the parameters, but they all overlap so much I wasn't really sure. I like that button though, giving the percentage match. For the above, it Best Bitter is the top match, 95%, then Altbier on 93%.

    What style?

Thanks for the replies. Something I could tell my dad was 'a bitter' is pretty much what I was going for, but I didn't know if English Pale Ale might be used, as it's bottled, a bit higher carbonation and the yeast called IPA! I'm learning, slowly!

    What style?

Hello. I enjoy trying to create recipes after reading/researching here and playing with Brewfather. I was looking to make 'something my dad might like' this time round. So I've got the following conditioning, but I don't really know what to call it when he/other people ask. I understand naming...

    Anybody making custom labels?

Has anyone used the online sticker/label shops like: https://www.stickershop.co.uk/products/oval-durable-laminated-vinyl-labels-stickers?variant=17676319301 More expensive, but I was thinking if making some with a logo for my 'brewery' rather than individual labels for each beer. Therefore I'd...

    Pubs in Cardiff

Not sure about pubs, but this place is nearby, so you could get something and sit in the corner of your hotel room?! https://twitter.com/MagicBeerShop

Cask, keg, bottle in a pub

Hello, I've been brewing small batches for a few years. I don't drink a lot, so enjoy handing out beers to friends, and one has said he really likes White Rat (Our Beers - Ossett Brewery). Now I thought I'd try to make a version, based roughly on the ingredients listed on the website. Thing...

    Brewfather equipment profile

Hi all, I used Brewfather software for the first time last brew. After a bit of playing around, I thought I had things looking ok. I added my own equipment profile, but mostly guessing with the numbers for volumes and efficiency as I'm still only a few AG brews in. I do BIAB, in Wilco...

How To Use Salifert Alkalinity and Calcium Test Kits

Just tried my kits for the first time. I'm in West Yorkshire. I needed just three drops for the KH test and two for the Ca. So looks like I'm around 8ppm alkalinity and 15ppm Calcium. How does this sound? Guess it's a pretty good base point? And it also means my Salifert kits should last a while!

Trub hanging in middle of kettle

Great, thanks for the replies. Yep, it's the fluffy stuff! Next time I'll perhaps try both a bit of a whirlpool and waiting a little longer before transferring to FV. I gave it an hour this time, but probably just need more patience. I did actually do the santised 2l bottle in the fridge for a...

Trub hanging in middle of kettle

Hello, The other day I brewed a 10l stovetop batch, and remembered the Britewort at 10 mins this time. The proteins seemed to clump together really nicely. However, when cooled, and I went to syphon into my FV, this material was just kind of hanging around in the middle of the kettle. I tried...

    Lager carbonation

Thanks! Will give the yeast a go dry and see. I buy two custom kits a time from Geterbrewed, so my next is back to straight pale ale (mostly just pale malt, simcoe, then use up the cascade in the freezer to dry hop, MJ M44 yeast which I think was the yeast in my first ever kit)

    Lager carbonation

I was trying a lager at this time of year mainly because I've no brew fridge, so hoped to take advantage of the ambient temperature. And curiosity! Frustration with previous two brews were: 1) was making a bitter that my dad would hopefully like, but that too seemed sweet and malty and...

    Lager carbonation

Ahh ok. I'm frustrated, only my fourth all grain (after three kits). Really enjoyed my first but last two haven't been great so was really hoping this might be! Onwards and upwards! Thanks again.

    Lager carbonation

Sterilising wise, I clean out bottles with percabonate as soon as I've poured, dry, cover with foil, then on brew day, ten mins submersed in more percarbonate then Star San with a bottle washer on top of bottle tree, so hoping I'm ok on that front. Might try adding new yeast then. I've got a...

    Lager carbonation

Thanks for the reply. Looking at my notes, I fermented around 13 degrees for 19 days, then raised to 18 degrees and bottled 6 days after that, straight from the FV. Only means of control is being in the cold garage and using a heat belt with Inkbird. Then left to carb up in cupboard upstairs...
