Pitching directly onto the last brew’s yeast trub

I’ve done this with verdant yeast a couple of times now, however I decant 300-400ml of the yeast cake into a jar then clean out the FV. the second brew always takes off like a rocket.

Finished off the physics. I was concerned with the recipe that there was a lot of dark crystal malt. This beer tasted more like a Porter, but was a nice pint all the same

    Greg Hughes recipes

I can vouch for the oatmeal stout, it’s amazing. I also made the dry stout, again with Nottingham. It was a nice beer, but I’d wager if you liked that you’ll love the oatmeal one. I would also recommend the honey Porter, I made that a while back and it was delicious. Only thing I would do...

Just had another glass of the vacant gesture- the gelatin has worked brilliantly!

“The Physics” finished up at 1.007, making it 6.2%, so a fair bit higher then the recipe called for. I kegged this evening with some gelatine. I got a full keg plus 5 x 500ml bottles. I’ll give it a week or so to condition before I tuck in 🍻

August 2021 - British Pale Ales, Bitters and Milds

Yes that’s fair enough. I thought I’d ask as I’ve got 4 bottles of it in the garage and thought I could send one for feedback.

Is a blonde ale hopped with Simcoe any good for this comp?

Hi, I drank that keg a while ago now, but I remember the hop aroma and flavour as being very subtle. Nothing like the big punchy American hops. In my notes I have written that if I brew this again to move the 20minute addition to a bit later in the boil and add a dry hop. All that being said...

Brewzilla Brew #13: The physics Brewed this the other day, currently fermenting away nicely. I got this recipe from DIY Dog, after a few low efficiency brews I set my efficiency to 65% on Brewfather and scaled the recipe for 23l. 4.07kg Extra pale malt 940g Dark Crystal (450 EBC) 310g...

It appears that I have spoken too soon. Just poured a half and it is considerably clearer than yesterday. I kegged this Monday and added the finings Wednesday. This has certainly sped up the clearing process.

[ Both brews were a couple of months apart, so far from a scientific comparison, but it’s interesting that you found the same too 👍🏻

It’s no great loss, it will still clear with time, and until then I just tell people it’s a hazy pale ale 😂 But I’d read good things (brulosophy etc) about gelatin and how it helps clear the beer, even after 48 hours.

I’ve made the David Heath Verdant IPA twice, the first time dry hopping at yeast pitch and the second after fermentation. I also did the same with Vacant gesture ( a dry hopped blonde beer) Both beers had much more hop aroma when dry hopped after fermentation had finished.

    Mangrove Jack's Kveik Yeast M12

I’ve fermented with both Voss and Hornindial. To get it to finish quick I pitched at 40C and then insulated the FV with a camping mat and sleeping bag. It finishes in a few days then. I think the stouts I made worked well, but the pale ales lacked hoppiness. This may be something wrong with my...
