    Co2 cost ££

I paid Adams gas (via agent) £55* + £20 both plus vat so £90 for a 6.35kg food grade Co2 cylinder. *£55 is the refundable cylinder deposit. March 2020 price. N¡ck BTW I had to involve Adams Gas as the agent initially added a bit of a markup.... Adams prices are national prices.

    Co2 cost ££

Yes stress food grade.... apparently some Co2 has an oil content. I wouldn't be happy if my local pub were to use welding screen gas as a carbination source. See my March 10th post above for price breakdown. N¡ck

Try Adams gas... they have independent suppliers all over the place. (My local car motor parts factor turned out to be an Adams agent.)

    Out of date Cider kit

Yes the recently bought cider yeast wouldn't start. In a bit of a panic I boiled a cup of water added a teaspoon of sugar. Waited for it to cool to room temperature sprinkled the old yeast on top. Then covered it with cling film for about 40 minutes. When I checked it (not expecting much) the...

    Out of date Cider kit

Transfered to Corney this afternoon. The fresh yeast I bought was rubbish ended up having to add the original yeast to get it going. Finished fermentation at 20°C 48 hours ago. Added 60g / 19 litres Canderel to back sweeten to my taste. Initial tasting very impressed nice Toffee Apple...

    Sweetening 19ltr Cider Corney

Thanks Mickthetrick I've never made cider before.. I've been waiting for the fermenter and one of my Corney to become free. So this is uncharted territory for me.. I've been asking around for a week or two...no luck finding a definate answer. So unless I hear anything else I'll probably go for...

    And we worry about infection

Hey... I'm not suggesting going back to the dark ages. Only that there are huge factor of safeties built into present day food and drink production storage and the notorious "Best before dates" I'm not going to stop nor recommend to stop sanitising only to keep things in perspective obviously.

    Sweetening 19ltr Cider Corney

Thanks for that Mickthetrick ... I think I read somewhere (but maybe I'm incorrect?) that back sweetening with sweeteners in the glass kills the carbonation straight away and that's what I want to avoid. I'm sure that someone out there has the ratio dead right.

    And we worry about infection

But it must have been reasonably palatable otherwise it wouldn't have been drunk. Of cause things develop but 200 yrs ago we still didn't know about bacteria. All we knew was fermented grains and fruits were healthier than water to drink. So for thousands of years brewers did their best with...
