    Fruity beer advice

My BAD! 2yo and a pm I never answered! The recipe is there follow the DIYdog exactly and use my fruit zest additions or adjust if you use a cooler (ie. more zest earlier maybe). But the low amount of Magnum bittering hops is not a typing error, you get plenty of bittering from the dry hops and...

    The Coronavirus thread.

I see no mention anywhere about stress levels even though we know stress will cause far greater symptoms of any illness and I know from experience flu is one of the illnesses where stress creates exaggerated symptoms. The nurse who's phone video was used on the BBC crying in her car because she...

    Fruity beer advice

I make an Elvis Juice clone staying as close to the recipe in the diy dog using 6 grapefruits and 6 seville oranges. I peel the zest with a sharp potato peeler and can freeze in sealed bags if not used straight away. I use 2/3rds of the peel in the boil and because I 'no chill' I put the rest of...

    British hops questions

The Pilgrim hopped old ale is now quite mellow and has changed (not sure for the better but not for the worse), the pineapple has faded and the more publicised peach flavour is there. The citrus notes are the predominant flavours/aromas then the after taste turns peachy, very refreshing. Hope...

    British hops questions

Yes definitely. Has pineapple/citrus notes somewhat like Vic Secret. If I hadn`t known what they were I would have presumed them to be a more expensive American hop. Just in future I won`t be wasting them for bittering.

    British hops questions

Just used Pilgrim in 18L batch of 7% old ale, bottled the other night and can highly recommend. Used 25g at start of boil, 25g flame out and the other 50g dry hop. Smells great and the samples I had whilst bottling tasted amazing with so many different fruity tastes zinging around. Can't wait...

    What am I doing wrong?

4 degrees is a lot either way and I think you should read this: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/whats-the-minimum-mash-temperature.579030/ Also what do you mean by reading the OG from the mash? If you mean directly in the mash tun then no, if you mean after sparging then yes but you...

    Efficiency

The main variable in efficiency is your mashing technique, usually the more time spent the higher it will be (eg. this is why BIAB normally has low efficiency). So if you don`t have time then adjust the grain bill or reduce the wort to get the desired ABV. It could also be the grain your using...

    Mini keg taste.

My personal experience with mini keg Ghost Ship was great, very hoppy (I can now recognise Citra hops in any beer), so nice that I bought direct from Adnam and would do again. But recently bought a bottle and if that had been my only time trying it I would have never bought it again, not very...

My brew from scratch, what dya reckon ?

I want to know how it tastes but I`m not doing it! I`m imaging a very sweet/bitter taste if you boiled the grain. Lots of unfermentable sugars but the extracts will ferment so thats good I think. Your a pioneer, Good luck! And let us know how it turns out please.

    Rocket science ?

When I have a brewday I have no idea what I`m going to brew until I check my grains, only thing I have in mind is what kind of strength of beer I want/need (this is probably based on stress levels at the time). I try to keep it simple and it`s usually a case of whats been there the longest. Only...

    Adding Flavour to beer

The way I`ve been looking at it is to use essences. A couple of links I have used are: http://www.uncleroys.co.uk/natural-extracts-essences-and-colours.html http://www.foodieflavours.com/shop/category/flavours/flavouring-drinks-cider-beer/ Just avoid oil based essences! Could always add a...

Reusable Moisture Absorber for grain storage

I use a Pingi Car Dehumidifier (think Argos are cheapest @ £3.60). Once the spot starts to turn pink just microwave it and it`s good to go again.

    Morrisons Bottled £1

Seems nationwide/online for Spitfire & Black sheep, ours has McEwans Champ Whisky edition too. Bought some to replace emptys not returned. Not sure when offer started or finishing. The McEwans Whisky is quite nice, sort of a vanilla/whisky infused 5.8%, talking myself into buying more there...
