    Cheap long term wine storage?

The trick with Facebook marketplace, ebay, freecycle, gumtree etc is not to be in a rush, have a look every 2-3 days and bide your time. my Last buy off eBay was 10 for £23, a friend of mine bought 14 on an auction for under a fiver. If they’re more than £3 let them go they’ll be listed again...

    Cheap long term wine storage?

The portion of my kits I want to store longer term I keep in demijohns, I’ll bottle a couple of gallons at 6-12 months depending on the kit and keep the other three gallons in bulk ageing. At some point I’ll bottle the rest and if it’s still improving hang on to maybe a dozen of those bottles...

Is a Blow-off Tube Actually Necessary?

Yep me too, did an impy once just 12 litres in a 35 litre bucket, the brewfridge looked like a scene out of quatermass it took me about an hour to clean it out and another to transfer out and clean the fermenter. Tasted bloody great though

Best Brew you have ever done Kit or All Grain

Not done many kits but I was blown away by the quality of the ones I actually did make after a 30 year break. Best for me and the only one I still make is tiny rebel cwtch. Made an AG version and I’ll try again but the kit is so good I’m more than happy brewing that, why fix what’s not broken?

    Adding oak during ageing

Hi I’ve got into making kit wines over the last twelve months as well as beer and currently got 15 gallons at various stages of ageing in demijohns. I want to add some oak chips to a few jars to mix it up a bit and see what results I can get. All have been racked 4 times and sediment free, just...

    Coconut Porter.

Tried the coconut Porter at Burning Soul microbrewery in Brum at the weekend and it was very good indeed. it had just a bit more than a hint of coconut not at all overpowering, coupled with a little lower bittering than you’d expect it worked really well. Joking apart adding a double Malibu or...

Winexpert Classic - Italian Pinto Grigio

I’ve done a number of 5 gallon wine kits this year as a departure from beer, I brew in my 30l buckets, but you could hold back 5l of water for a few days if you’re concerned about frothing, just make sure what you top up with is a similar temp so as not to shock the yeast. I rack into demijohns...

    Beer mixtures

Common drink in the 80s where I’m from was half bitter half lager, called a Chinese or a Golden depending on what side of the Mersey you lived. Tasted like pish tbh.
