    New Competition rules.

Osprey, I'm not trying to be difficult, and have absolutely no problem with you personally or vegans in general. I would however respectfully suggest this is a niche interest and I would not be supportive of a blanket change in the competition rules. Having said that I'm sure the forum admins...

    New Competition rules.

Yup, I think I must have been in a particularly accommodating mood when I penned my earlier contribution to this thread. I'm instinctively against the majority having to adjust for the benefit of the minority, and would probably just bypass any competition where I felt a judge was imposing...

    New Competition rules.

Agree that we should be as inclusive as is practical, without alienating the brewers who don't have an issue with animal based finings. Perhaps next years competition calendar could have one month dedicated to vegan beers?

    WLP 066 London Fog yeast

I've not used this particular yeast, so feel free to discount what I'm about to say! I personally wouldn't use a low flocculating strain in a darker beer. A lot of that is down to personal preference though, as I feel there's a big risk of it ending up looking muddy rather than hazy.

    July comp and it's freestyle!

Work schedule now shifted slightly, looks like I'll be home on the 25th, so more likely I'll get the Vienna sent off in time for judging. Really interested how it compares to another in the same category.

    Verdant Maltmiller Comp

Bit gutted, I would have liked to enter but won't be home until the 28th of the month, would be cutting it a bit too fine to have something brewed and sent by the 14th of August. Someone's in for a great prize!

    July comp and it's freestyle!

Thanks Stig, hopefully it arrives in time for the comp, but I'll probably send it anyway if you're kind enough to give feedback on it.

How many litres of home brew 2020.

Hmmmm, looks like I've not contributed to this thread at all in 2020! 12 x 23L batches. Summit Single hop APA Grapefruit APA (loosely based on Elvis Juice) Marzen Vienna Lager Citrillo APA English Porter Pseudo Lager - Munich Helles grainbill fermented with WLP090 (not an experiment i'll be...

    July comp and it's freestyle!

I've got a Vienna Lager that I'd quite like some feedback on. I'm not due home until around the 28th of July though, could be a day or two either side. I'll send it if its likely to arrive by the end of the month if that's ok?

    Scottish blog

Great idea. I'd definitely read it, try and help out with content if you wanted. Where in Scotland are you from?

    German Pils

Mash efficiency was 87%, BH was 76%. That's using a grainfather, so yours could of course be very different depending on your set-up.

    German Pils

Thanks, but afraid it didn't do very well! More because of brewing technique than recipe I think, apparently it was oxidised. I've since upgraded to using a Fermzilla which means I can ferment under pressure and do completely closed transfers. Hopefully prevent any future oxidation issues.

    German Pils

No such thing as a stupid question mate. Yes, 60 minute mash at 67C with a 10 minute mash out at 75C. I still do the 90 minute boil when using pilsner malt, although I have heard others say it's not necessary with modern malts.
