    Grain Scoop Fail

I use the same scoop I use for my hens - grain and layer's pellets - I give it a wipe first. Does this make me a bad person?

    Smoked malt

I wasn't meaning to recreate an Export, just use the style as a basis. Thanks for the advice on the different malts - just what I was looking for. This idea came out of a discussion in the pub...... so it's prob a daft idea anyway.

    Hello All

If you are going the "Good Life" route - all grain brewing and poultry keeping are very compatible activities. Hens love spent brewers grains, pickled eggs go well with a pint, and there must be a chicken casserole recipe that involves beer somewhere.

    Hello All

I've been both brewing and winemaking for a while. The recommendation of CJJ Berry's book will tell you nearly all you'll ever need to know about making wine. Brewing is an altogether more subtle business - I'd suggest you ask lots of questions. Average beer costs as much time effort and...

Plans for a 5 gal length Herms system

I'd been wondering about that - thanks for the tip. I've one of these in mind for a mash tun: http://cgi.ebay.fr/MARMITE-THERMOS-CAPA ... 2c5d026808 I'm reading up on the control system, and it's starting to make sense. AKAICS I need a PID controller, a couple of thermocuples, a Solid State...

    Smoked malt

I take your point. I've drunk German Rauchbier and liked it - I thought I'd go for a Scottish version. Randy Mosher in Radical Brewing suggests a 'pound or two' in a brew. It comes in 500g packs, so I'll try that in 5 Imp Gals and see how it goes.

Plans for a 5 gal length Herms system

I've been really inspired by reading this forum, and I'm starting to think about upgrading my brewing plant. Currently I have a trusty Burco boiler that is at least 30 years old, an equally elderly Bruheat I use for mashing and the usual collection of plastic fermenting bins. There's a lot of...

    Worthington E

I'd suggest putting a bucket under a horse, collecting 5 gallons, then adding yeast. But, each to his own. :) Richard

    Hello from Fife

I'm halway between Leven and St Andrews, nr Largoward - I've put myself on the map. Good brewing here, I have a cottage with a private water supply. The water's unchlorinated, and makes a cracking beer.
