Initial thoughts on BIAB in Klarstein Fullhorn

That looks handy! Main issue I've had is that all-grain kits often assume 23L so quantities supplied reflect this. That can lead to my boil issues. This would be very handy for my own recipes though where I can choose the FV volume and work back from there. 👍

Great thanks! I've stopped worrying if I don't get the full 23L into the FV! The main reason I have had a problem is because that is the volume a lot of all-grain kits aim for and so the pre-boil volume is a little too much for safety! I could of course just scale things down a bit but that's...

Reasonably so - I compared it side by side. I didn't dunk sparge what with it being my first BIAB so final product was a bit thin. I had also lost more volume than expected during the boil and had topped up with water which just compounded things. I'd say my final product was not a fair...

I used the all-grain kit from Brew UK. Was about £16 IIRC. I had some problems but they were all related to it being my first all-grain brew - I will buy that kit again to check!

The bazooka is just a mesh tube that screws to the inside of the valve. Idea is to filter out hops which I found okay when using leaf but it clogs if using pellets. The issue with boiling over for me is this: Suppose I want to end up with 23L in the FV and my boil duration results in 4L loss. I...

Yep tried that and frantic stirring too but still it boils over. How are you determining that you've hit the boil ie is it the bubbling, a thermometer or the digital readout (or some combination?) Maybe I need to kill the 900W element a bit sooner?

I've brewed four times now in the Fullhorn and each time as I reach boiling I get quite dramatic foaming which spills over unless I quickly drain off a few litres. As mentioned above, I can reintroduce it immediately though after which there is no problem. I'm happy to live with this given I...

Initial thoughts on BIAB in Klarstein Fullhorn

Just to add another data point, I brewed again yesterday with the aim of getting 23L into the FV. My preboil volume was probably 25L (around 1cm below the full line) and as Galena suggested, I was ready with the metal paddle. As soon as it reached boiling, it boiled over despite my switching off...

All fair comment and with far more brews under your belt I'm sure you're right about the capacity. That's good to hear that it should be possible to end up with 23L in the FV too!

I found that if you put 25L in in pre-boil, it will boil over when it reaches 100'C. I've had to quickly drain 2L but was able to add that back almost immediately. The recipe was 25L pre-boil for 20L in the fermenter (Punk IPA DIY Dog kit from BrewUK). You *might* be able to fit 28L in with an...

    Festival London Porter kit question!

Probably two weeks in the keg before I tried it. My usual routine now is 14 days in the FV, one week in the keg to condition then one week to clear. I usually have more than one brew on at a time though so it takes a few weeks to get through a keg by which time the beer has usually changed and...

    Festival London Porter kit question!

Just to add my tuppence worth. I've recently made this kit and it's probably the best one I've done. It was in the FV for 14 days and I added the hops after 5 days as per instruction and without any ill effects. This was in February when it was -20 outside so I used an immersion heater for the...

Just thought I would share some feedback having done a couple of all-grain recipes in my Klarstein Fullhorn in case it should prove useful to anyone. The unit has a capacity of 26.7L to the full line when the bazooka and false bottom are fitted. Approximately 1 litre of wort is retained unless...

Help! My first BIAB All-Grain has landed me with low OG

Thanks, will definitely do some sort of sparge next time and an iodine test too.

Help! My first BIAB All-Grain has landed me with low OG

Many thanks. The Fullhorn has 1L of deadspace below the valve and of course probably a bit more above it but below the false bottom. Looks like I've not used enough water in the mash then? I added hot water to the boiler but didn't dunk sparge the bag because I'd read that was not really...
