    Cold conditioning blunder!!

Hi All Before going on holiday a week or so again, I kegged a couple of batches I’d had fermenting. My usual setup is ferment for 12 days after brew day, into a corny, put under pressure and cold conditioned in a fridge for 2-3 weeks. I’ve just got home and realised one of the fridges hadn’t...

    Soft drinks in a keg

Yeah I’m using 3/16 - exact same setup I use with my beer and the line doesn’t particularly froth with beer in it. I’ll play with the pressure a bit and see if that relieves it - but I’m wary to increase beyond serving pressure when it’s coming out like a frothy bullet already! Thank you.

    Soft drinks in a keg

I’ve got a four-tap setup each with a corny keg, and as I’ve only got two beers on the go currently thought I’d put some lemonade through one. initially seemed great - 9x 2 litre bottles of Lidl lemonade at 19p ago - £1.71 for a keg of lemonade. Put it on a low serving pressure and all seemed...

    Protafloc - for all brews?

I use it in everything and think it is definitely superior to Irish moss, which I used to us. Also, I’m more comfortable chucking a clean little tablet into my almost complete brew than some stinky bit of rancid seaweed.

Poured 29 bottles down the sink today.

I take a slightly different view here. I always think that, provided your process is clean and avoids any infection, there’s no such thing as a bad beer, just a different beer.

    Recovering massively over carbonated beer

I did a couple of brews some weeks back, both racked to cornies and sat on CO2 for a couple of weeks to improve etc. This has always been my method like many others. I majorly screwed up with one, somehow setting my carbonated waaay to high (like 60-80psi) which I discovered when I came to...

I’m a beginner and creating a beer cellar

I’ve contemplated going stainless steel loads of times but always stick with plastic cos I think it works just fine... even if it doesn’t look as snazzy. Not sure where you are with kit but before considering upgrading your fermenters, there are other things to prioritise that will make a...

    Grain suppliers

I’ve not come across Get Er Brewed before - will have to check it out. I accidentally went slightly above 30kg with Home Brew Company (my current favourite) and they didn’t charge me for it. Always find fantastic service too. The Malt Miller was my go to supplier at one time but think it...

    Disaster

Each to their own I suppose. I do use a brewing fridge, primarily cos I fancied the challenge of building one. I do like the fact I can hold a perfect temp, be it 18, 19, 20, whatever, and if you do cold crash (which I usually don’t) there are advantages of not having to move the primary. But if...

It’ll be fine. Let us know!

    Bottle it or bin it?

I’m gonna say exactly what I said in another post yesterday... as long as everything is sanitised, something not going to plan normally leads to a different beer rather than a bad beer. Don’t waste it.

    Disaster

As long as everything is sanitised post boil, I always take the view that anything else not going to plan won’t necessarily make a bad beer, just a different beer. Don’t ditch the beer - you never know, you might hit the jackpot and end up with something sensational.

    beer gas

I think some people are paying a lot of money! I’ve never paid more than £20 to trade my empty bottles for a full one. Never used a refill service either - it’s always a reconditioned traded bottle so you know the seals have been checked etc. My advice would be avoid the big chain companies...

No cold crash in the FV

I use a converted fridge as a fermentation chamber to control the temp so have experimented with cold crash in the final days of primary fermentation quite a bit. My conclusion is it makes no discernible difference if it’s going into a chilled corny anyway. I have a similar final set up to the...

    Top Shelf flavourings

Hi, I wondered if anybody has had any success using these flavourings to supplement their beers? They are designed for creating liqueurs but I’ve used the chocolate cream flavour really successfully - just traded it for the vanilla in my normal vanilla porter to create a really lovely chocolate...
