    Starting SG query

The recipe in the video quoted 8% to 9%. So not too different. Prob trust you fag packet more. It's a first foray into trying a scrumpi.

    Starting SG query

It's adding to the sugar in the cartons. If I use the cartons I have then they are 113gms per carton. I think I can see where this is going now. Rather than take an OG reading which isn't really the OG till the 4th carton is added. Work it out from the total sugar used. 113 x 4 = 452gm plus...

    Starting SG query

This question is relating to cider making but it will probably apply to wines as well. I am following a Youtube video on making a gallon of scrumpi using 4L apple juice and 340 gms of sugar. The recipe says to hold back on the 4th carton of apple juice as the fermentation is usually vigorous and...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

That would probably work well for me. My son though seems to be able to tell if anything has sweetener in it and refuses to drink it. Will be worth a try though. I have a sweetener with Stevia in it which is plant based I believe so less chemical.

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I started a 1 gal supermarket juice wine about a week ago. I have not brewed anything for 3 or 4 years and the last one was a 5 gal batch so I am a bit out of practice and restarting small. When I made it back then I would back sweeten as and when needed but as I will be giving away a few...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I dont think you will get it there anymore Chippy. I live in the same town as you and was referring to Appleseeds. My son called in for me yesterday and to quote hin "their supplier insist on huge amounts so they don't get it any more". Which is a shame. JUst popped over to Wilko and got a...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Has anyone found an alternative to Youngs Super Wine Yeast Compound. I used to buy this at a local health food shop but not they are not stocking it due to the large quantities they have to order at a time. It used to cost around £2.99 for a 60gm tub which lasted for a couple of 5gal batches of...

    WhiteLabs cider yeast

Your right, thats where I saw it. It's the £6.95 postage I was not happy about. It's anly a small sachet and a large letter only costs £1.01 to send. It's not I can't afford it, it's the principle.

    WhiteLabs cider yeast

From what I have read and watched on Youtube a proper cider yeast can make a lot of difference. I am trying a sachet of Harris cider yeast in a 5 ltr batch at the moment and it seems quite active. Others such as CML and Mangrove Jacks have been recommended so there are options.

    WhiteLabs cider yeast

Does anyone know of a reasonable source for White Labs WLP775 cider yeast here in the UK. Almost everywhere I try is out of stock with no idea if they will restock. I did find one place that stocked it at £6.75 which is not a bad price, but £6.95 postage for a small pouch is just unacceptable...

    New Grainfather Conical Fermenter

However for those like myself who have no intention of paying £800+ for a glycol chiller, they also announced an alternative option that is available now. This consists of a submersible pump and all the fittings to chill, controlled using something like an insulated picnic box...

Filtering from fv to corny keg

Did you get it new or charity shop. I have been keeping an eye on second hand ones. I'm not bothered about fermentation as I have a Grainfather conical for that and that has it's own temperature control setup.

Filtering from fv to corny keg

I like the fridge you have. I keep looking around for one that will take a couple of corny kegs with a bit of room at the top for the tap. All the ones I have seen seem to have a big lump at the back where the compressor lives and restricts the size to fit the kegs.
