Is the Meghan Interview with Oprah a big deal in the UK? Is/was Oprah Winfrey a big celeb with you folks?

It was a pretty large event here, some beans spilled. I just found out that she's a movie star and not a simple Caucasian ( thought she looked Italian, maybe?). Full disclosure: the totality of my knowledge comes from watching a Stephen Colbert monologue about her and Prince (?) Harry.
There's no official royalty here but there's a lot of people wanting to know what movie stars are doing and the like. Is that what it's like having a Royal family?
By my questions, it should be apparent why I've never, and will probably never, participate in UK discussions of UK politics. I still don't get Brexit but I do like to watch a minute or two of Parliament (?) arguing topics--straightforward, loud, polite speeches.
Cheers!

i know who oprah is but not meghan (though that seems spelt oddly).
interview?
man of few words.

Does a Royal Family have any relevance in 2021? Who do they relate to? They are an expensive luxury of a bygone age that should be scrapped when the Queen dies. Do people want Charles as the head of state.
At least that sh@t Piers has gone.

Personally I have no interest in this overrated soap opera. Because of their apparent popularity I doubt if will get rid of them but why not privatise them so the we are not funding an extravagant lifestyle,

A report in 2019 revealed that Queen Elizabeth II and her family cost the British people £67 million during the previous year.17 Dec 2020

A study by the Brand Finance Network estimated that in 2017 the monarchy generated a gross uplift of £1.766 bn to the UK economy.

What would happen to the British royal family if the monarchy were to be abolished? And how likely is that?

On present form in 2019, it seems highly unlikely that the British royal family will be sent packing. Queen Elizabeth II is immensely more liked than any political, TV or entertainment figure. In 2019, she topped YouGov’s list of Britain’s most admired women with 22.61 per cent of the poll – ahead of Michelle Obama (13 per cent), Judi Dench (7.66 per cent) and JK Rowling (6.77 per cent).

A study by the Brand Finance Network estimated that in 2017 the monarchy generated a gross uplift of £1.766bn to the UK economy. This was calculated by taking into consideration the Crown Estate’s surplus, plus the indirect effect of the monarchy on industries such as tourism, trade, media and arts – along with the benefits to British charities and the advertising value of extra coverage around the world for ‘Brand Britain’.

If, however, Britain’s royals were ever to be shown the door, it is fun to imagine an alternative existence in which we might discover some of them setting up lucrative dogs’ homes – with others, perhaps, finding jobs on reality television…

I'm so bored of all this now, and I don't even have any issues with the Monarchy.

What makes me laugh is the pair of them leave Royal Duties and move to the US to escape the view of the public and press, then they do an interview on OPRAH! Well if the U.S didn't know who you were before, they sure do now. Absolute muppetry.

Where does the privatise comment come from it's not mine, I'd clear all these misfits out when the Queen dies. Answer the question do you want Charles as our head of state. We've had two useless Charles's do we want this fool as Charles 3.
