Hi all. I'm a complete newbie to homebrew but was bought a kit for my birthday and am now nervously waiting for some signs of fermentation from the brew I started last night.
Something tells me I may need some advice along the way!

Hiya Wolfspark, just give it a bit of time and as someone has already said, the instructions can sometimes be a tad optimistic. I’m sure it’ll start fermenting soon.
What part of Wales are you from? I’m in the Rhondda.

Thanks for the welcome!
I live near Knighton in Powys. The kit I'm currently trying to brew is a Muntons American style IPA. I watched a few videos in advance and I think I've followed the instructions exactly. I pitched the yeast at 22c, let it cool down and have kept it at a fairly constant 19c. I started it about 36hrs ago but I'm still waiting for some bubbles in the airlock.

This may seem like a daft question, but have you snapped the lid around the top of the fermenting bin to ensure no air escapes, other than through the airlock?

I only ask, as I made that mistake. I was waiting for the airlock to bubble, only to realise that I hadn’t secured the lid properly and the beer was fermenting away nicely anyway. (-:

The lid seems pretty airtight. If I push down gently on it the water in the airlock rises which would indicate that. I checked it a few minutes ago and although there's still a lack of airlock activity I can see that there is a frothy head forming which wasn't there yesterday

Well it's definitely fermenting 🙂
I did my first hydrometer reading this morning and it's dropped from 1.045 to 1.022 despite not seeing a single bubble from the airlock in 6 days.
Whilst I had the lid up I sprinkled on the hop pellets that were with the kit. I went to check on it an hour later and I finally have bubbles coming thick and fast out of the airlock.
Happy days!
