Your suggestions would be much appreciated for my next brew.

I have done 2 so far a Woodforde's Wherry which is quite nice and an Admiral which is a little disappointing at the moment, but may improve with more time in the bottle. I think the fermentation may have stalled on the Admiral as it stopped completely when I added the hops at day 4 but had been going well before that.

Anyway I have been looking round for my next kit and there are so many it's confusing so your suggestions from your experience would be very much appreciated. I like a draught bitter, but not very bitter, I like amber ales like Greene King Abbott, both draught and bottled, I used to love a pint of Ind Coupe Burton, I don't really like the very citrusy beers like Ghost Ship.

Any suggestions for a good kit to make?

Cheers

Two kits I have enjoyed in the past are Festival Landlord's Finest (I think it's their take on TT Landlord), and Woodforde's Bure Gold (I liked it so much I did it twice).
I also don't mind Corage Directors kit.
It's a couple of years since I have done kits, so not sure if these are still manufactured.

Thanks for the reply, the Festival Landlord's was one I considered but looked at the reviews, and although there were some good ones there were quite a few who absolutely slated it, might try it though. What did the BureGold taste like?

I can highly recommend the Mangrove Jacks Kits. I’m sure there would be something in their range you might like. I have aLao made Muntons Midas Touch which is really nice, malty Ale.

Do the odd kit, mostly small batch AG now, Dark Rock do some great kits, didn’t have a dud out of 6 or so, Mangrove Jacks all good, Love Brewing Beerworks top notch, Brewferm excellent if you are patient and let it condition Kits have come a long way, with a bit of attention to the water, temperature and using LME/DME instead of sugar you should get a decent pint.

Thanks for the suggestions, I read reviews about Munton's Midas Touch and they talk about it being a summer ale with citrus and pine aftertaste. Did you find it like that? I am not a lover of Citrus taste in beer, Ghost Ship is favoured as a beer by many but I don't really like the taste.

I‘m with you on the Ghost Ship: I know many people who like it, but…

Thanks GhostShip, each to their own, be a boring place if we all liked the same thing.

I have looked at the Beerworks kits and that is part of my confusion, I am overwhelmed by choice Beerworks, Munton's, Woodforde's, etc etc my head hurts and that is before consuming any ale .

Ha ha - if you haven't already done so, look though the Reviews section on this website. That will give you some idea of the quality of the kit. You can also search for kit reviews on YouTube - the Partridge Brothers reviews are particularly good. There's nothing worse than buying a new kit, brewing it and then finding out it's not actually very good!

I have looked at a number of reviews, but even then who knows? For example Festivals Landlord's kit has some great reviews but some really bad ones too.
As I liked TTs Landlord I finally went for the Festival kit, however that was after I tried to get a Cordon Brew Burton XXXX kit but couldn't. All seem to be out of stock online, went to Cutlacks in Ely as their website showed both their shops (the other is in Cambridge) did kits, only to be told it's only the Cambridge shop. One of the other ones I considered was Munton's Connoisseurs IPA Bitter might be my next one. Trouble is no Home Brew shops I can find close to Downham Market/King's Lynn, Wilkinson's are useless, never have any stock.

Sorry just seeing this now. No, definitely not for me. I wouldn’t say that there is citrus or pine aftertastes. It is a lovely English Ale with a very malty finish. I have a Hazy IPA and a Cooper’s Canadian Blonde which was pimped with Citra and mosaic hops. The Midas Touch is very different and really nice.

I have bought 2 kits, don't know which one I will do first. Woodforde's Nelson's (formally Revenge) and Festival Landlord's. All reviews seem to have good things to say about the Nelson's while the Landlord has mixed reviews. Because of lack of Home Brew shops locally they both come out a little dearer with p&p but hey ho still quite good value.

I’m sure they will both be great. Good luck. Some beers need an extra few weeks to come good. I’ve done a couple which were not great initially. But 4-6 weeks later they were absolutely fantastic. Patience is key with some.

A pic of a Midas Touch. I’m enjoying one now.
