I can now confirm that we will be going ahead with the trial re hops working in collaboration with @ColinDalziel, and can offer 500gs of 2021 Saaz hop pellets in a zip lock bag for £8.50

We are paying Crisp for the Group Malt buy 8 today and expect that the malt should be available for collection from 3rd May onwards. If you would also like some hops, please just message me back on this forum or email me [email protected] to register your interest

Spooky, literally just logged on to see if there was any update re the malt buy. 👍

yes, please! Count me in for a bag if you would.

View attachment 66753I I I I use these for my bulk grains. They are 2nd hand food containers. These ones are 45 litre barrels. They hold about 21kg of grain, so not quite a full bag. You would need a 60 litre barrel for a full one.

I got them from:

I’ve no connection with the company but I recommend them and they were really helpful. About an hours drive from Sandbach.
I use those type of barrels too, they are perfect for grain and stackable too. I managed to find some 50L ones on eBay that are perfect for a 25KG sack. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to have them anymore! Mine also needed cleaning at least twice to get rid of the chutney aroma, but no trace now.

Have you bothered buying a seal/gasket for them? If so can you recommend a supplier?

I haven’t, as the screw lids are pretty tight when closed.

The same supplier sometimes has ones like these that are sealed with a metal clamp. These are 100% airtight. I use them on my open canoe trips and they have never failed. I would have gone for them but they had none in stock when I last ordered.

👍 Yeah they are good I have some too, which all have gaskets, but I prefer the screw top ones. (The ones I have stack really well 3 or even 4 high) I’ve not had any issues just thinking the grain may last longer if I add in a gasket. I’ll be trying to purge the O2 next 🙂

Great to see people interested. I've now received interest from 6 people via the forum or direct. As this is a trial I only have 1 more pack of Saaz available, so be quick if you do want one.

It will be either for collection from the usual collection points or at my place near Shifnal Shropshire.

I've just purchased a vacuum sealer so the hops will be vacuum packed rather than in a ziplock bag.
