Saw first swallow today, tracks have dried out and back on my favourite circular walk - feels like spring at last.

I don’t think I’ve contributed to this Thread before; and since it’s been on the go since early 2018 I suspect that some of the dogs are no longer with us!

My Avatar is my own contribution; and despite not having Jake and Jessica for over 20 years, I still miss them!

The following poem was sent to me by a mate when Jessica died in 2001. It sums up what most of us feel when a much loved dog dies; and it can still make me weep!

If it should be that I grow old and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done for this last battle can't be won
You will be sad I understand, don't let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest your love and friendship stands the test
We've had so many happy years what is to come can hold no fears
Would you want me to suffer?

So when the time comes please let me go
Take me where my needs they'll tend
Only stay with me until the end
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see
It is a kindness you do for me

Just brought a few tears to my eyes Dutto.

That's really well written 👏

Ruby is 10 months old now. Her hobbies include chasing swallows, swimming, fetching ball and doing parkrun. We are best mates. She follows me everywhere. 😀

Sadly had to make the final trip to the vets today. At almost 15 years old and 14 years with us, both the hardest and easiest decision to make.
Sorry to see this. We lost our dog just over 2 years ago. We had her for 16 years. It was such a hard decision but she had no quality of life. They are such amazing friends. It took us a while to get over it.

Sitting in The Ackhorne York with a pint on Ruby from local Rudgate brewery,
