That's a bit of a contradiction if you notice it's got a little dark put your headlights on. ;)

Collision avoidence is in my view a good thing to have I don't imagine many here haven't had a momentary lack of concentration at some point in their lives leading to a close call, the reviewer from car wow recons it will be standard on all cars within a few years as will reversing aids.
 
Depends how long you expect to keep the car to a degree. I don't like salesmen so stay away from them! On our fifth car in 40 years of driving. Only the first never cracked 100K - At present its a Mk7 Civic (2003) 145K and rising (2000 miles last year partly due to Covid) A really practical car and has been very reliable but very little tech. Even I can work the radio without referring to the instruction manual!
The motorhome has cruise control - waste of time in this country.

Modern cruise has distance control so it slows down and speeds up to keep a safe distance from the car in front that is something I will be using
 
I know why manufacturers put this safety tech in their cars, not just for sales blurbs, but because recent surveys have found the actual act of driving is usually only the 4th or 5th priority of the vast majority of drivers when they are behind the wheel. Frightening stat but true.
Most people are thinking about work, life, love, food or something other than what they are doing and are basically working on subconscious instinct to pilot their 2tonne machine around town or at 70mph on the motorway.

Personally I don't like tech in my cars. I don't need connected Netflix enabled multi touch screens shouting out my WhatsApp messages whilst I talk to a colleague on Teams voice in the office via hands free. All whilst ploughing through 3 submenus to alter the fan speed on the aircon for the back left passenger seat....
I mean come on.... Its a car for getting you safely to your destination and possibly driving enjoyment. If you need a mobile office or entertainment experience, catch the sodding train.

I have had several cars, some with fancy tech - but most without.
Only things I want in mine are leccy windows, bum warmers, cruise control and aircon. Aircon on my current car got set to 20c auto and hasn't been touched since in 40k miles!
I would much rather manufacturers spent that £500 of leccy hardware for this superfluous rubbish on decent shocks and brakes so I can enjoy a better riding car.
 
I agree a lot of the tech isn't essential but if the mid range car has it all why not get it, I don't want keyless entry, a full length sunroof, heated steering wheel and seats that come with the top of the range models but I will use the majority of the stuff on the mid range car mainly Aircon, auto cruise control. Wireless charging pad while playing music from my phone via Bluetooth, parking camera etc, and you don't have to use the touch screen the steering wheel has all the controlls in fact some models block the use of the screen while you are on the move.

Remember back in the day when Skoda cars were classed as cheap rubbish and you wouldn't have been seen dead in one, look how KIA have come on since 2003.

Ive had 2 sportages - The first one 16 plate I liked but my 19 plate one is pretty awful. Build quality is second to none, but the steering is so
vague its dangerous and the the MPG is abysmal. Also loaded up, it has the get up and go of a slug! Would I buy another - probably not.
They aint a bad car, but there are better I feel.

What size engine in both?

I like the Sportage but i dont need something that big and i would struggle parking it where i live as parking spaces are as rare as hens teeth, i am looking at a CEED unfortunately it wont be a new one.

Have you tried the Hyundai Tucson they are the same car (KIA & Hyundai are the same company) i like the look of the Tucson.

Mine were both 1.6 petrol (I do very low annual miles). I think the CEED is the pick of the bunch and gets
great reviews. You should test drive one. As I said the build quality is superb - way better than Renault and peugeot.
My next car will probably be a Toyota, if my P Bonds come up.!
 
The Tucson, I believe is very good. I thought it was bigger than a Sportage - probably wrong.
Dutto will be along soon trying to off load his Trabant fleet.asad.
There are so many variables..
Will this be your last car
Do you have a lot of steep hills near you
How many people do yo want to carry etc etc

Nowt wrong with renault and peugeot, my last 4 clio not a bit of trouble, then a 16 plate 208 great car traded that so my daughter could get a 21 plate 208 which was written off in a no fault crash at 11 months old she now has a 19 plate vw t-roc, my current motor is a 17 plate peugeot 2008 can,t fault it 1.2 petrol 51.2 mpg on e10
 
We have a kia nero (hybrid), i guess about 6 years old, it was my wifes company car and we bought it off them. It suits us but i'm not sure its for everyone. It has very little get go and not a great deal of boot space due to the big battery, it's also very heavy and as such has quite poor mpg in towns etc. But, it cruises well on A roads, it's comfortable and very economical generally. Also being a hybrid we don't pay any road tax, wahaay!

I know absolutely sod all about cars though, for me its something to get from a-b in. 🤣
 
If your happy thats fine. I used to work for a Renault / KIA dealership and in the long term KIA are better built. Its when you get to about 60K and then all the annoying squeaks and rattles appear. Cars are very divisive so Im not here to start a mine is better than yours argument. The Clio is a great little car for example, but the Avantime was wretched. Generally the Korean cars are better built, but some models (Sportage) pretty uninspiring. If it bothers you so much, get a Beemer
 
My previous car was a Focus RS 2.3 Turbo which I sold during lockdown. No issues driving a 1.0 Turbo Kia, very practical and quick enough, not an SUV so not too heavy. 🙃
