THBF is pleased to announce that we have a new forum sponsor, Cedaronics.
Cedaronics supply temperature controlling equipment for use in home brewing and other applications, but don't take my word for it, have a look at Tims website above yourself!

We hope you will give Tim a warm welcome and we look forward to a fantastic year with Cedaronics as one of our sponsors.

Welcome aboard Tim

The pre built STC-1000 in their enclosures look excellent.

They are a very good price too, especially as they have a relay built in as well for controlling the HLT.

Certainly worth the money, especially for the people not so confident about wiring one up.

Aww, gee, thanks!

It's great to be here, and I'm looking forward to taking part in discussions where I can. We'll be keeping the STC-1000, with the 40A relay, for as long as they (the STCs) are being produced and the demand exists. It certainly appears to be the controller most referenced on the brewing forums. We also produce some single output controllers - currently I'm sourcing these from an Italian company. I do aim to produce high quality enclosures to a high IP standard along with cables and other components.

I might as well take the opportunity to say that we are actively looking at PIDs in the same format of enclosure as the STC, and finally we produce a rather fancy PID for humidity control which is more likely to be of interest to those who make cheese and/or salamis and sausages.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

We recently started making our own sausages, have been looking at Salami's :hmm:
Will you be selling non enclosed controllers Tim, and have you thought about sensors, PT100's etc?

Looking at Salamis eh , V ? What would old Sigmund make of that ? :hmm:

We make sausages at the farm and there a couple of books I could put you onto if you wanted . I made some great chorizo some years ago , good fun . :thumb:

Tim ! Welcome ! Some good products there and your controller is at a realistic , affordable price ,....nice one mate . I was chasing up 12VDC heating wire and flexi elements for ages so am very pleased to see your stuff here , even though its a different voltage . Nice to have you aboard ! ;)

The trouble with selling controllers on their own is one of scale - I'd have to possibly buy 1000s of them to make anything on them. And what if they go out of favour or people startt to prefer a PID?

With sensors, is a PT100 more desirable than an NTC? I guess the matter is one of accuracy, yes?

@Shocks - cheers for the welcome. Yes, salami/sausage/cheese making is an other area, similar to brewing, where process control is so importnat - the results pleasing to the palate!

I bought my pre built STC-100 from cedaronics and have to say it's excellent. Also found Tim very helpful. Had a problem with pay pal and he went the extra mile to help.

Yes, welcome Tim.
That controller, even by my standard, "tight git" according to my daughter, is very good value, especially as Steve said if you don' t know what your doing with electric. ;)
PIDs and PT100 are a nightmare for the amateur, must be a market there. ;) , says he who bought the wrong one

That's twice PT100s have come up now - are they the sensor of choice?

They are for me and do seem popular, but can't speak for others. ;)

Good stuff, silly question but could I use this to make a fermentation fridge? I have the fridge I just want to get the bits to control the temperature.... Cheers and welcome

The Pid PT100 marriage sems to be a difficult issue . I bought the wrong PID / thermocouple a while back. Im looking again am confused as hell. Anyone who can put a Pid/PT100/thermowell for pipeswork/ SSR would be on a real winner on here.

Yes, this is exactly the thing you need to make a fermentation fridge. The only extra thing you need is a heat source such as a 60 watt bar heater.

Perfect ... one STC-100 order being raise just now. Whilst I am happy wiring things up, but this is just an ideal package.

PT100 are more accurate as they have linear accuracy ie, if they're accurate at 1 deg they'll have the same at 100 deg c (ish). NTC are not linear, they may be accurate at 1 deg c but may well be 'out' at 100 deg c. NTC are relatively o.k for fermenting as there's only a short temp range, but overall PT100 would be my desired sensor of choice, and class A at that.
You need to add all the inaccuracies of your system to get an idea of how accurate your readings are, ie, sensor and controller.

I think the 'built' units Tim supplies are a great idea and they will appeal to those who don't have the inclination or knowledge to make their own  . Electrickery is not really a subject to start 'playing' with
