Hi folks.

I pressurised my Corny last night (8pm) to 20psi to force carb it. I've checked on it this morning and the reg is reading 0psi (checked at 6:30am).

I closed the valve on the CO2 cylinder and left the IN disconnect attached so I could still take a reading from the reg.

Would you expect this drop in pressure as it seems very strange to me. I've not had chance to test any of the connections yet as I had to get to work so I'll do it tonight.

Any advice or thoughts?

Cheers

I would check on all pipe connectors, when did you last change all the seals on the keg??

The keg came from Norm a week ago so all seals should be new.

It could be connectors to regulator - maybe try it with disconnecting from the keg to work out which side your leak is. That will help you narrow it down. I find the prime suspect is usually the lid - sometimes I have to turn them around and they seem to sit better.

:thumb: I've found that out, it works, also I've found that if I put 30 psi in it seats the cap better then just lower after a short time to whatever psi you need.

I shall try all these if my first test fails. I've disconnected the CO2 line to the Corny and pressurised the reg/line to 20psi to see if it'll hold the pressure :-) Couldn't hear any hissing though.

What size spanners do you use to tighten your posts? I have a 22mm in post and what seems to be either a 24/25mm out post.

Ok, so first test done and the pressure had dropped so I'm going to presume the corny is fine for now.

Second test was to pressurise to 20psi and then I have an off valve for the corny reg, I put it to off so effectively creating two pressurised chambers. One on the CO2 bottle side and one in the corny reg side. The corny side is still at 20psi where as the CO2 side has dropped so at least I'm getting somewhere.

I'm sure I've read about creating a water and washing up liquid solution and spraying it onto the surface to see where the air is escaping from. Is this correct?

I've been told the same, but never had to use it.

We always used monkey spunk (soap n water) to check for any leaks in gas pipes / compressed air. Easy to spot the leaks.

Once the reg seems to hold the pressure how long would you leave it at the same pressure to be 100% sure it's sealed properly?

So I took it apart again yesterday as it was still loosing pressure (albeit not as fast as before) and put more PTFE tape and threads etc. it's still loosing pressure, 2.5 bar in about 12hrs showing on the CO2 cylinder reg. the corny reg is still showing 20 psi

Same sort of problem except I have lost all the CO2 in my CO2 cylinder, I couldnt hear it leaking at all so to lose that much in a few days surprises me.

Now I have the problem of trying to find a supplier in the Essex area, any ideas?

if the keg is outside in the cold, and was full, and was just carbed up to 20psi after filling, it could easily absorb all the co2 overnight if the temp dropped low. 300ml? or what headroom there is in a full keg, isnt that much co2 even at 20psi. especially if you crash chilled before kegging.

a sure check for leaks is take the keg outside, tape a binliner arround the keg top and fill with water and hold it in position til your satisfied no leaks and or you have identified where the leak is.

sometimes a popit dosent resit properly when you pull the disconnect off and needs a little jiggle but when that happens you can generally hear the hiss.

I get mine from Leigh Fire Protection Services, they are converted fire extinguishers. Tell him what you want them for and they'll sort you out. Pay cash, its cheaper.

+1

In fact it was probably on the back of your advice RS :thumb:
