home cinema speakers

Hi, At the moment i have next to the television, a pair of black 4 way floor speakers, and they are connected to the amplifier, the wife's always going on about how ugly they are, and how much room they take up.
I've been looking for other methods, and i havelooked at soundbars, and am not keen, but today i have found this:

As the wifes saying that this would be a better option for us???

That's only a sub woofer so you would need to connect other speakers to it, thus destroying your objective?

we had surround sound but had to take ours down due to having two staffies bombing around the place

I'm still looking for a replacement for mine, I wouldn't go with a sound bar as you're not getting true surround sound, I'd go for some bookshelf sized speakers if space is an issue, and a decent sub woofer... Im keeping an eye out for kef egg speakers as an example.

You may need to have a look at the connections on your amp though to see what the best option is, also is it an av amp or just a standard amp?

Previous posts seems to have most of the answers you are probably looking for, you could always go into somewhere like richer sounds and ask a few questions and get a few demonstrations?

Sony do a neat little kit with "wireless" rear speakers. The sound is transmitted wirelessly but they are still powered. I looked into getting it a while back, no doubt the technology has moved on now.

Great way of having true 5.1 without the cables running from the telly.

I didn't get to hear what it sounded like though, didn't get that far, so I would always recommend a visit to actually hear something before you buy it :)

At the moment, i have a AV amp, it's a cambridge azur 540, but she wants the space, and taking the amp, and a pair of tall black floorstanders would make a lot of room!

Sod it, i have ordered the subwoofer itwm on the link, its used in conjunction with the tv speakers, if its ****, i can send it back, as for the sub system, i have all the speakers still, but i have large centre and back speakers, and large bi-polar surround speakers, and they are in the loft!!
Wires dont do well here!, and even when we had them up, we tended to use just stereo for movies, as it did us fine, as much as i like cranking it up, i have to be wary of the neighbours hearing everything! lol

Are they no good then, I was looking at getting a sony one for £120.

The one in the top link looks almost identical to the 2-1 sound subwoofer I have attached to the PC, think it was about £80 from Maplin a few years back

most soundbars i have heard are indeed ****, dont get me wrong, there are some really good ones, i would love the yamaha ones, but at £400 upwards?, i can't justify the expense, even comet don't sell them, as they said in store that they were rubbish.
I have looked at a lot of reviews and they are not what i want, people aren't happy with them once they have them home.
I have though read a lot of good reviews bout the sub i bought, and once installed, i will put a review up here to let all know!

ok, the vibe sub arrived this morning, and have now set it up, all i can say is that it works a treat to be honest, it make the tv sound great, really packs a punch with the bass, for watching tv shows and movies, and minimum fuss , its a keeper!
Recommended to all, who want a tidy set up!!
