Not posted any of my brewdays before so thought it was about time. Had planned to do something for Halloween, ie Pendle Witches Brew but decided to do the Pride clone as I had a disaster last time I tried this recipe. So AG#12 London Pride clone from GW's book. I messed about with the recipe, added some wheat malt and used WLP001 California yeast for the first time.

This is the starter, not sure about this yeast as all my previous starters didn't get a yeast head like this one

Using my new SS paddle for the first time, the plastic spoon is not robust enough, but the paddle may be a bit big!

Mashing in, paddle just fits in the 24L mash tun

Recirculating using HERMS

Sparging - Always a pain to balance the pump to the output of the mash tun. Sparge at approx 0.5L / min

I used a combination of whole hops and pellets, hence the mess left in the copper, need to get a Stainless IC.

Nicely aerated wort, ended up with 22L @ 1048, was aiming for 1044

I brewed London Pride a few weeks back and it turned out just like the original, a really great tasting beer. I’m not sure if the recipe I used is the same as yours as I don't know the one in GW's book. Here's the recipe I used (obtained from another site). Is this the same as the one you used?

GRAINS (60 minute mash)
OPTIC PALE MALT 3900 gms
FLAKED MAIZE 306 gms
CRYSTAL MALT 130 gms

1 and a quarter teaspoons brewer’s caramel to bring colour to 24 units

HOPS
TARGET 11 gms 90 minutes
CHALLENGER 11 gms 90 minutes
NORTHDOWN 10 gms 15 minutes

YEAST
WYEAST 1968 ESB
(although the recipe stated the above yeast I used Safale S04 which worked just fine)

25 litres - OG 1.040 - ABV 4.1% - 30 units of bitterness

All of my clones taste great but never like the original

GWs recipe is a bit different, MO pale malt and 10% crystal malt. The hops are the similar but some Goldings for aroma.
