Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I searched for best brewed or best beer brewed and didn't find a thread so here goes.

As a relative newcomer with only 15+ brews to my name I'm interested to know what you consider to be the best thing you've ever brewed? This could be a kit, an extract or all grain in any style of beer or cider (I'm less of a wine drinker).

In theory this is a question most people can contribute to as long as you've completed a few brews and at least one of them turned out OK.

I appreciate this is a subjective question as everyone's tastes are different and everyone is using different kit under different conditions etc but it will be interesting to see what comes out and if there are any popular choices.

An additional question would be if you brewed a kit or followed a recipe did you change/enhance it in any way or follow the brewing instructions/recipe to the letter?

Thanks in advance. I could add a poll later if a top 25 could be worked out.

I would say what you should be asking is what's (if people have em) is your house beer , after all if it's your best you're gonna be brewing it many times .
Mine is my wheat beer recipe all grain version ,
Pilsner malt ,
pale wheat malt ,
either carahell or carawheat
wlp 380 yeast
hersbrucker hops

My house beer is a Nelson Sauvin Rye-PA that I'm continually tweaking. I currently brew it every second brew. Basically it is varying amounts of:

Pale Malt
Rye Malt
Carapils
Malted Oats
Roasted Barley

Magnum for bittering then loads of Nelson Sauvin late and dry hop.

From my own very limited experience it was a Munton's Santa's Winter Warmer kit which I made 2 years ago. Tasted like a strong version of Sneck Lifter at 6.7%

Had a great primary fermentation and racked to a pressure barrel. All was going well and it was conditioning nicely in my garage for a month or so at no more than 5C then just before Xmas 2011 the temperature warmed up considerably to 10C and it seemed to lose carbonation. Its possible it was never that carbonated to start with it but came out very flat. Great tasting beer and maybe would have been better conditioned in bottles. That said it didn't last very long.

Either my elderberry stout or my traquair house approximation, both have been well received by fellow brewers.

My "house" beers are shaping up as:

Pittsy's Hefeweizen (terrible I know, someone else's beer is my house beer!)
Untilted APA
Aleman's Effin Oatmeal Stout (there I go again! I've changed the hops for Bullion though...)

I need a bitter of some kind, haven't settled on one yet.

Still learning, to be honest. Admittedly I think the best thing I've brewed recently is a Belgian Pale Ale. Simple recipe, lots of cold conditioning, and it tastes...super professional.

Think the best I ever made was the Elderflower Mini IPA I took to Spring Thing. Awesome flavour.

My maple bitter. Modified coopers english bitter kit. But got high hopes for my triple chocolate stout thats on the go at the minute

Only just started all-grain, and both brews so far look like being my favourites, but prior to that...

1st place: a very simple bitter from extract I did in 2001:

2 x 1.5Kg Telford's Pale LME
12oz crushed crystal malt (I'm guessing 50/60L)
2 Oz Fuggles + 1 Oz EKG
1/2 Oz EKG Late
Gervin English Ale Yeast

(23L Brew, topped up from just a 7L stockpot steep and boil as I recall - maybe used a spare saucepan too!)

2nd place (though SWMBO reckons 1st :sulk: )
Brewferm Kriek kit

3rd place
(Equal) Woodforde's Wherry brewed short to 21.5L and dry hopped in secondary with 40g EKG
I did that brew twice
(Equal) A tweaked Dave Line Theakston's OP extract I did in the mid nineties. On the second attempt at it I reduced the roasted barley and increased the crystal slightly as I recall, and it made a very nice brew.

My best beer I would say is my first AG 'Old Tom Clone'and that's not sentimental rubbish it actually is the best I've done! Not surprising really as before I got into Home brew it was my favourite beer by a mile.. I have drank most of it through the year but have managed to keep my hands off around a dozen bottles that I'm saving for Christmas. Happy days!
My house beer is SNPA clone.

I brewed a clone of Wadsworth 6X from Graham Wheelers 2nd book with a few tweaks, so good I did not want the barrel to end. I have always kept detailed notes including mash temp, fermentation temp, PH 10-15 mins into the mash and other detail. Can I ever repeat this one, no. Attempted several times using the same yeast, WLP013 and every other detail I could possibly think of. I have reproduced other beer I liked that did turn out like the original but never this one. Maybe time to try again.

Sundew (with lotsa dry hopping and some extra DME or LME)
Young's Harvest Mild. It's like drinking alcoholic coke - goes down very easy.
