this year I will be having porridge in my gatehouse :(

will be working 12 hour shifts all over Christmas for the first time in 8 years :cry:
 
It just isn't Christmas unless I'm half cut shouting in a half mad frenzy for someone to get me more chef fuel (wine) in the late morning.

Then I sit down and eat so much I'm completely bone sober and ready for round 2 of christmas merriment in the afternoon.
 
Hate the whole festering season glad when it is all over to be honest. :evil:

That's just because you're not in control of the procurement or preparation of the culinary offerings though...

This year for me will be the same as last year, the Copas game-hung turkey with homemade stuffing, the perfectly cooked (read "not soup") sprouts with smokey bacon and creme fraiche, the homemade, nothing to do with bisto whatsoever gravy, the homemade cranberry sauce, the homemade bread sauce, the crispy, crunchy roast tatties, the handmade using sausages and bacon straight from the farm pigs in blankets, the homemade christmas pudding which has been maturing since early October, the homemade (and well "fed") Christmas cake....

...with one little magic ingredient. The bramble jelly addition to the gravy which got tested last night. Ooooh baby!!!

Oh, and some beer...
 
I hate so much that I don't want to be around. Used to love it but 10 years in retail put heed to it.
 
Christmas is what you make it, don't let that corporate **** spoil it for you, it should be about family and friends, not money and presents...and yes...I do think you can separate the 2...harder if you have kids though.
 
I worked in the family shop, and I always remember Christmas eve being an anti climax, especially if sales hasn't been good. I enjoy doing Christmas things with the kids in the run up, but its the day itself I don't like.

:lol: My bets are that if G was in charge of laying on the feast it would be different. Telling everyone to "f**k off out of my kitchen" (except if they are going to wash up) Gordon Ramsey style and preparing a humungous spread single handed, and sitting back and enjoying the fruits (and meats and veggies) of one's labours and soaking up the praise, head swelling all the while (along with the stomach) is where the Christmas spirit lies for me...

That and the little 'un hanging her stocking from the mantelpiece on Christmas Eve... that got me a wee bit soppy last year...
 
This is why I hate Christmas ....... I've just called in at local Spar supermarket for milk and they have blasted christmas carols, blaring out of the loudspeakers !!!! :twisted: :twisted:

We have to get little un's birthday card two months in advance - you try getting decent birthday cards in December...

Try getting one for my birthday the day after valentines :evil: . Which is also doubly bad as my mum wouldn't let me open any cards on valentines just in case they were birthdays cars :evil:

No you started it with talk of Christmas Puddings back in August :lol: :lol: . I am well and truly festering. :grin:
 
I wasn't trying to flog 'em! It's not like I was trying to get everyone eating my puddings for Christmas...

oh, wait... How many times did I PM out the recipe? :lol:
 
That is the one part of Christmas I am looking forward to this year my bloody christmas pudding (and whisky sauce :whistle: ) And if it manages to make an appearance my Stilton (still limping along) :thumb: :thumb:
