Yeah I would say 99% of the time I take my glass back to the bar, there is the odd occasion when I'm in a hurry that I might not but I usually do. Having worked in many a bar myself I always appreciated it when people did this, so I feel that I should do it as well :)

You probably don't go in pubs as much as perhaps you once did. So you too and every other person actively brewing and not going into a pub is also making the pot washer redundant..............................................

The reason for my comment was like a lot of people on here I have worked in bars myself and there is nothing worse than having to tidy up after every bugger. It is a sad fact that people have this attitude to rely on someone else and not make an effort themselves or help someone out a little.

I rarely get the opportunity. Normally if I go for a pint it's at lunchtime or during the afternoon/early evening, when my locals tend to be quiet and the barman/maid is often looking for work to keep themselves busy. I'm often first to finish, so my glass is normally collected long before the next round is ordered.

If a pub needs a potman to collect glasses that needs to be paid for somehow and that means extra pennies on your pint!

So for me it depends very much on the pub and prevailing conditions. A busy Saturday night in a ***** "out with other people" pub, highly unlikely. A pint in a proper pub, you know a real pub, always.

The potman also emptied ashtrays, cleaned tables, made a couple of quid on the side fetching for the hen and stag parties etc.
And a good potman was worth the money by keeping a tidy front of house, and just being around and knowledgeable and friendly and also keeping a close eye on "people issues" as the door staff can't be everywhere at once.

thats how i got my last pint mug. the service was bad had to wait 45minutes of our main meal in a chain pub so it managed to fall into my sons pushchair. the rest came from beer festivals (paid for them)

I normally take the glasses back to the bar, but if it's a very nice glass I take it a bit further - - - - maybe my house.....
Especially if it's £3.00+ a pint cos that includes the drinking vessel F.O.C. :thumb:
As for McDonald's I always remove the rubbish, it's only courteous because as soon as you get up another family sit down and why should they move my waste... It pisses me off when I see it.. Grrrrr

My friend and I were in a pub in Cambridge recently and I recall two halves coming to just over £7, with no prior warning from the barman (we'd already sampled several pints of more reasonably priced ale by this point). Needless to say, after paying that much for them, we definitely came to the conclusion that the glasses were complimentary!
