WHATS THE BEST ELEMENT FOR A 50 LITRE POT OR KEG I WANT TO BE SAFE I WAS THIUNKING STAINLESS STEEL 2.7 KILOWATTS

I would use two, you can always one off when you get the boil rolling. I boil 55 L and would struggle get a rolling boil with one but once it is going then I switch one off. :thumb:

cheers i was hopning to get away with one as the element i had in mind was £58 if i got two that would be over £100 cant afford that right now

I actually think This 3KW one would be better.

If you wanted to, you could wire up each pair of terminals in either Series or Parallel with a Switch panel) you could then have various wattage configurations without the need for a power controller.

Hello there aleman if i was an electrician with 240 volts i would go for that option but i am not too confident with that kind of stuff i did wire up my stc 1000 but i had a wiring diagram to help.Ijust dot want :electric: especially with water involved.
Think i might just go down the kettle element route its at least just plug and play i will leave the other elements to you more conpitent and professssional brewers.
:thumb: thanks for your feed back

That's another option, a bit more complicated wiring though for those not too confident with electrics.

£58 seems expensive for a single element, where's that from? can you post a link please?

The price didnt include p&p i was hoping to get one but he only made a few available so i missed out a didnt have the cash that week.
I think he might not do the elements again due to costs and other issues i hope angel homebrew do decide to make more

They look the business and at least if they are always in stock spares are available I wonder if anyone on the forum has used them.

I've got a pair of those in 'Big Bertha', my 200l pot (which I also got from Homebrewbuilder - MrLard). Did a test boil the other day and very pleased with them. Hope to be running them in 'anger' soon with an 18 gallon brew.

I think i will get away with just the one element fromm mr lard just got a price via e mail which was very good.
Let me know how your first boil goes with your mega boiler

I will, indeed, boab42stout. I'll probably post a brewday thread on the forum for it.

I use a 50l pot for my boiler and typically boil 32-33 litres. I have one haden 2.4 kW element fitted and although it takes about 35 minutes to raise the hot wort to a boil, it does a good job of maintaining the boil. I think that if I went for a 3kW element I'd have to consider some means of controlling the voltage to minimise wort loss during the boil. I usually boil for 75 minutes.

fyi after using tesco kettle elements for ages in my first boiler i started to upgrade and invested lots of cash in various ebay and brewshop bargains.. after a whole lot of 'lemonade' (what u make when u have lemons..)

i took the plunge and invested in 2 x mrLard/homebrewbuilder elements.. soon after i bought another 2, - not supped lemonade since ;)

so long story short for budget option i vote for tesco kettle elements.. or if u want to invest more, go the whole hog and get the best u can....

check out belters 'elements elements elements' post over on Jims for a list of elements to avoid, a few of mine are listed ;)
