Does anyone filter their water?

Does anyone use a water filter to filter their water before brewing? I've tried campden tablets before but I can't say it made a great deal of difference, however, after using my water filter I've noticed my water tastes a lot cleaner. I'm thinking about filtering my water before I brew next but I just wondering if anyone else has tried this?

Nope, but I have also thought about it. I was just thinking about how long it would take my little jug to filter 40-odd litres tho.
I shall watch this thread with interest if anybody does decide to go for it, just in case it has a noticeable effect.
 
I was thinking about getting a 8.5l water filter, it will still take some time filter but better than using the smaller ones!
 
I use bottled water. Not sure how much our tap water would affect things but i've never had a problem with bottled water. It's cheap but also convienient when brewing.
 
I run mine through a carbon and heavy metal filter. . . . It does the job
 
I'll give filtering a go plus I'm going to go to my local tropical fish shop and see if I can get some RO water.
 
What are you trying to remove from the water?

You can get a Berkey Water filter for around £200, that'll purify your water at about 13lt/hr

Or you can make your own with replacement filter catridges and a couple of brewbins

However, using 2 packs of filters (4 in the bucket) increases waterflow up to 26lts/hr.
 
I use rain water with flies and all sorts of stuff in it. Run it though a 6 quid water filter (you can use one about 5 times before its blocked) and the rest of its taken care of in the boil...

What does your water have in it that you want to remove? Can you get a local water report? My water here in the central part of the US is so loaded up with chlorine and chloramines that I dilute with RO water to at least 50/50...than add 1/4 teaspoon K metabisulfite [Campden tablet would work]. The Campden neutralizes the chlorine, etc immediately. We can get cheap RO water at the grocery store or WalMart so that's what I use. Also, the pH of local tap water is about 9.0 because of chems that are added to protect the pipes. I used to filter at home but it took quite a while for 10 gallons of brew water...Campden is immediate.

BTW I'm heading for Chipping Campden day after tomorrow [vacation] and found out Campden tablets were developed there a long time ago. So that's how they got their name.

Is it a bad thing to use spring water? I get 5 litre bottles from my local supermarket for about a quid each
 
When i did my first wine kit i filtered all the water, but the local home brew shop said it wasn't necessary but i prefer to just to be on the safe side.
 
Tap water too. Tried bottle water , and filtered no difference all clear, no taste difference . :D
