Hi chaps. Does anyone use tap water for their wines? I am talking specifically about wine making here, not beer.

Or do you all use spring water?

If you do use tap water what kind do you have (hard/soft) and how does it compare to mineral water?

The reason I ask is that sometimes I feel like knocking up a batch of wine (maybe even a larger batch - 25l) and really don't fancy humping all that water from the supermarket as I don't use a car.

I usually get my water delivered from the supermarket but sometimes the fancy takes me or the opportunity arises to make a batch there and then but I miss it because I don't fancy hiking to the shop and lugging back huge bottles of water.

I'm thinking of making a batch or two of summer punch using tap water just to see how it compares before even attempting it with wine. Anyone see any issues with that?

Let me know your experiences please.

What about hard water? I think we are in a hard water area. Should I avoid using it for my wine?

No idea if we're in a hard water area or not to be totally honest. Kettle scales up after a while.

Still use it for wine making, beer making and cider making. No oddities have arisen yet..!

I made a couple of punches on Saturday with tap water so I'll let you know how it tastes compared to the mineral water version and/or if anything unexpected happens.

hard water is fine for wine, we too live in a hard water area and I've always used it works great. It's funny actually because I've just been asking about using hard water for beer

Cheers for that mate. The water here tastes fine and I think I might give it a try from now on until I get some bad results connected with the water.
