You still need to wait until it has cleared then rack off the sediment, filtering is good for getting rid of very slight 'haze' but the filter pads do clog up easily if you try filtering a cloudy wine. And they are expensive!
I use 'KwikClear' for wine that has settled and been racked or for larger batches, 5 gallons, I have yet to find a finings that is as good as Wilko's own, most of the time it goes from a bucket of mud to crystal clear 48 hours sometimes sooner, and no need to rack it off!

I was referring to the 6 bottles I've already dun
I clearly did not clear it proply as I've a small amount off sedament in each bottle
I was thinking off running them in to new bottles thou a filter
Or would I end up with vinegar. infection etc
 
What to make. Deep and full bodied merlot grape juice. Can I make red. If so any ideas for recipe.

Then white grape juice. Closes thing to Sauvignonblanc or Pinot. Please again ideas

I went in to my local B&M last night - sugar is on special 3 x 1kg for £1 - just to let you all following on from chewie's post.

Well, I opened by first bottle of WGJ, apple juice & pineapple WOW last night & I am really impressed. It tastes SO much better than the Wilko Chardonnay kit (that was only just drinkable - maybe I did something wrong!) Even my husband liked it & he's not a fan of white wine. Sadly, I don't think any bottles will be around long enough to mature.

I have a couple more on the go - so fingers crossed they all turn out the same. Many thanks to everyone for posting the recipes & hints & tips. It really is much appreciated!
 
Looch, how long has it been since you bottled before trying?

And everyone else, what is the average amount of time you leave after bottling before starting to drink your wow? or wowv? (wow variant).

And what is the longest you have left one in the bottle before drinking? (probably not long judging by many of the posts on here!)

When I was much younger and less patient,(not that I'm really patient now mind) I could hardly wait for my wine to be drinkable, but I learned with wine to wait and even rough wines can turn good. But my first experience with wow after racking and degassing and stabilising yeststerday evening and taking a wee sip is, if it's this good now after 15 days from starting I think it can only get better.

As I do with my other wines I was gonna leave it for a week to see if it would clear naturally, and even though some folks say they are drinking theirs within weeks of bottling, my instinct tells me to leave for at least a month after bottling before drinking, and as we are almost a month from xmas I decided to add some finings hoping to clear and bottle sooner.

The finings I had was yrs old, so rather than risk a wildcard I decided to try wilko finings as folks seem to give it good reports, and it is clearing nicely! although I had to water down the very small amount of liquid to make it easier to dispense into dj's
 
I've just gone & poured myself a little taster, cheapbrew. And I agree, if it tastes this good now, after a little maturity, it will be awesome. This is my first white. I have actually bottled (well bagged) a red type WOW and I am actually waiting for it to mature a while.

I'm also brewing 3 more WOWs in the hope that I will have enough to put down & mature & have a constant supply. I will be constantly brewing I feel!
 
Unfortunately you cannot make red wine from red grape juice it always comes out Rose wine in colour.

A tip if i may, never use grape juice on its own it doesn't work well.
 
No i am a boring old git and now stick to the stuff i know works well.

The last time i experimented was with a bottle of RGJ & strawberry and a carton of apple, the sediment was about 2 inches high in the DJ.
 
Cool I have Apple and blackberry juice so will add that make a dark rose and report results. If I want 11% wine
The grape juice has 162g sugar the apple juice is 110g
I wanted to use 2ltrs of grape. Two Apple.
How much sugar do o need. It's all over my head
 
You don't need 4 litres of juice in 4.5 litre DJ, use 2 and see if you like it, you can always add juice later to strengthen the taste if its too weak.

If you use 2 cartons to a DJ use 600g sugar.
 
I used purple grape juice, cranberry & raspberry juice & a red grape extract - it's gone a dark rose. I threw some oak chips in too. I also added some blackcurrant squash to give it some body, after fermenting had finished. It's not an award winner, but it's drinkable. I'm still at that experimenting stage!
 
Just tried my blueberry wine which I made from 4 1l cartons and topped up with water and sugar to get abv18% when it's done.

Still probably a few days left to ferment but WOW does that stuff taste good!!

I used the ocean spray juice naively thinking it would be high in natural blueberry juice but found the sainsburys own was higher. Lesson learned.

I was gonna ask if anyone has done any with just fruit juice and no grape juice of any kind?
