I was wondering if anyone has ever fermented 100% orange juice like cider but orange instead of apple juice. No water added just pure juice and maybe a bit of sugar to make it a bit stronger.
If anyone has done it, how did it turn out?
Been thinking of making some.

Can't help you on that one but let us know how it turns out, lol if its anything like a vodka an pure orange it would run the guts outta me:)

I cannot remember anyone making a 100% orange juice wine but having read 100% tomato wine turned out well i say go for it. :thumb:

Not really a wine I was after, more like a cider about 4-5%. Looking for a nice tasty bbq drink

I,d say give it a try with a gallon demijohn first but be prepared to have loads of sediment. I've made dozens of gallons of wine using one litre of orange juice and 250 grams of sultanas and the orange juice always throws quite a bit of sediment compared with other juices such as Apple. Give it a go though but give it plenty of space to froth and prepare to have loads of sediment.

Thats a good point about the sediment and throffing. Wow with only one litre of orange throffs a lot and there's about an inch of sediment. It will probably be very active.

I will probably have to use two demijohns with half in each until it calms down then put them together after.

The only thing i have tried more volcanic in fermentation than pure OJ is OJ and pineapple it makes a nice summer drink though.
The 2 demijohn idea is the way to go, good luck with it.

So you would just put orange juice and cider yeast ? With yeast nutrient, maybe ?

How long does it take for this to ferment ?

Fermentation length depends on a few things, temperature, sugar content etc there is no set time so i would say 7 to 14 days.

I made a wine with 3 cartons of grape juice and a carton of lyche juice and I had to split it between 2 demijohns because it wouldnt stop foaming up for most of the fermenting time.

I made the same kind of thing you're on about but with Grapefruit juice. It was bloody lovely.
Sharp / bitter taste, clear as, fizzy. Lovely.
I have 12 litres of Grapefruit juice here. I'm going to put another one on this week.

I'd say ferment your orange juice with the recipe I used and it should be OK.
I tried to make it again, but added sultanas. It got an infection on the surface for some reason.
I did syphon of a demijohn of it but it never cleared. Chucked it out.
This time when I make it I won't add more grapefruit juice at bottling stage either.

Well ive brewed some 100% orange juice. Didn't add any sugar, just added yeast and nutrient. I had it in 2 seperate demijohns to make sure there was no overflowing. Just added them both together as the airlock activity and foaming has ceased after a couple of days. Haven't took a fg yet, going to leave it a bit longer. I had a taste and I can only describe it as a cross between bucks fizz and biting a lemon. All the sharpness is there from the acid but no sweetness.

It has actually turned out nice. Slightly sharp but add a little bit of lemonade and its nice and refreshing.

I've got 12 litres of orange juice that I bought earlier this week. I decided I was going to make some too.
It's also a trial of Aldi's fruit juice.

I put it into 2l pop bottles and primed it with 4 tsp of sugar. It turned out about 5% and that was without adding sugar. Maybe I should have added some sugar because the added lemonade will be diluting the alcohol.
