Bit of a puzzler, I've been using my mini kegs for about 2 1/2 years now with no problems at all... until now
I have 9 kegs on the go with different brews but my last 7 or 8 kegs have been total froth bombs. I'm not talking the first couple of pints being a bit frothy it goes right to the bottom of the keg, each pint is a pint of froth that I leave to settle and end up with about 3 inches in the bottom of the glass. This weekend I got through 3 kegs and wasn't even slightly ******, spent more time walking to the fridge. Thing is the beer tastes fine and I haven't done anything different to the dozens of times I've done it before. Also I split the brews between kegs and barrells and the bottles are fine
I'm starting to think that the kegs have come to the end of their lifespan, the outsides were going slightly rusty on the surface so I Plastikoted them months ago so maybe the insides are shot too?
Anybody have any ideas before I skip the lot?
Am thinking of buying a new one and giving it a try to see if that works out ok
Any help much appreciated

Possibly an infection? If you have just been cleaning them out after use then puting more beer into them that might be the cause. Infections dont have to change the taste they can just over attenuate the beer till there's no sugars left (or taste for that matter). I've had an infection in bottles like that before

@Myqul - I think it is some sort of infection but it's every barrel, different brews done over a few months so I'm thinking it must be the barrel. I'm going to cut one open have a looksie and see if the problem is inside.

@ Leon - I use the grey re-useable bungs but after a while the rubber gets stiff and it's very difficult to push them into the barrel so I replace them quite often

Thanks for the replies

Sounds like the infection is in the keg then, rather than anywhere else in your set up

I had a similar issue when using the other bungs, when I didn't vent the keg before inserting the tap

The mystery deepens, just took a hacksaw to a barrel and it's perfectly clean - no rust at all. Also the beer tastes fine when I manage to squeeze a drop out so not sure what type of infection it could be

Hi All! I have the beer King 2000 but having issues with C02 cartridges... when I screw them in there is a big blow out of most of the gas out the wrong end and gas didn't even last 2 days after... I screw in the cartridge after I have put the tap into the top hole. Any clues how to fix (screw in faster, add vasoline maybe?)

I have the Beer king 2000 and when I first used it I used to leave the gas switched on all of the time and it doesn't last. Are you sure it is off when you are putting the cartridge in place, this is what I do.

Turn the gas knob to off ( you have to decide which way is on and off)
Install the cartridge, a quick hiss.
When you need a refill turn knob on for 1-2 seconds.
Turn off again until the dispense pressure drops and use again for 1-2 secs

I can use a cylinder for a few brews depending on carbonation and how long it lasts.

Is it regular Hobgoblin or Hobgoblin Gold? I like the gold a lot more.

I loved the Gold when it first came out, but last time I had it I just thought it tasted like any old generic pale ale.

The problem is having to drink 5L of hobgoblin. Brown dish water as far as I'm concerned.

5l hobgoblin is 4.5%
bottled hobgoblin is 5.2%

If I could turn dishwasher into 5.2% alcohol, it would be called the second coming

Just opened my second keg of Pilsner. Flat just like the first. Primed to 20g I think it's the bung. Can't remember the first one but I reused a black/red for this keg. I turned the top to vent and nothing happened. Am I missing something when reusing the bungs? Put party star in and no gas to push beer through.

Also I have noticed my party star tap splutters for the first 5 seconds of pouring and if I have just added gas it shots ale out. Only noticed this recent. Gravity tap seems ok though. Any ideas?

Sound to me like it's the bung. I prime to 20g per keg too and get good carbonation. I take it your making sure the bung is in the 0/closed position before you install the bung? Perhaps try some vaseline around the bung hole before fitting the bung
