Anti-pigeon spikes placed on tree branches to stop birds pooing on cars have been branded "idiotic".

The spikes on Pembroke Road, Clifton, Bristol, were erected by the management company of nearby Bartlett Court flats to protect residents' "expensive cars".

Hillcrest Estate Management said the trees attract roosting pigeons and it needs to protect vehicles at the "prestigious development".

But wildlife experts have criticised the move.

Nature writer Jennifer Garrett said the spikes were a "war on wildlife" on Twitter.

That is hilarious!

To be fair I do get very annoyed with having to clean my car almost daily as i have to park under trees at work however I think the phrase, thats life comes to mind.

Surely the residents should just club together and purchase a bird of prey. Community spirit is getting very thin on the ground now a days

or a decent air rifle

It reminds me of a few years ago Norwich City council were going to remove Horse Chestnut trees as they posed a danger.

The conkers are a danger to pedestrians, who could slip on the mulch they leave behind, according to the council.

The golf-ball sized horse chestnuts could also come crashing down onto passing cars, while sticks thrown by children to dislodge them could cause serious head injuries, the council has warned.

Actually was more than a few years ago, 2001! :-? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/1387961.stm

Next thing you will see is ''Local burglar sues for loss of income after falling out of Pigeon proof tree''

I wonder if they made them crawl along the branches or just got some tree surgeons to do it.
Probably not just any tree surgeons either I bet, the special ones which can charge 3 times the going rate, just like anything council related.

Doesn't it make you feel good knowing the money they steal from us goes to such important work.

Unless the management company who paid for them out of the money the residents pay them have been round and burgled your house they haven't stolen anything from you!

Its still theft. If you don't have a car and live there you contribute. Pretty hilarious though, can only imagine if the idea took off.

Not really, you agree to the charge when you rent a property there. It's no more theft than any rent is.

It is a ludicrous idea though.
