Hi all,

I've tried using BIAB in my boiler, but the efficiency is low. I'm now looking for an insulated mash tun, made from a coolbox, ideally with steel ball valve. Happy to pay postage (there are some cheap options), or collect from not too far from Orpington, Kent.

Thanks!

Hi!
How low was your efficiency? Did you heat the wort during the mash?
Sorry for the questions but I mash in my boiler but don't use BIAB - I use a false bottom. This means running the wort into a separate vessel at the end of the mash, cleaning the boiler and re-introducing the wort before boiling.
It is part of a RIMS setup that uses the boiler element to heat the mash.

All sorted- thanks to Buster!

Hi BigCol, the expected ABV was around 6, and I got 3.25, so not very efficient! My set up is otherwise like yours- I sparge etc, draw the wort into a spare vessel, then put it back in for the boil. I've used a separate insulated mash tun when brewing with a friend, and we get much better efficiency, usually a bit higher than predicted by the recipe.
