My MEAD tastes like whiskey

Why??

I made in October 2016

I made it with a quartered orange and 2kg of honey

My best guess would be fusel alcohol caused by yeast stress during fermentation. Did it taste like that when you racked/bottled it? What was the OG, yeast and nutrient used, fermentation temperature?

 That is much less amazing than the thread title indicated.

What's wrong with it tasting like whisky? That sounds like a good thing!

I know you said you used 2kg of honey, but into what volume? If that's in a 4 litre demijon, then yeah you may have made a very strong mead, which will take quite a few years to become drinkable. Once it does however, it will be one awesome mead. Are you noticing any burn at the back of your throat with it at all?
