I agree, I don't know how they can send from Ireland for less than the guys in salisbury and cheaper grain prices

I tend to do very different brews each time and I don't like having unused malt and hops about the place, so I always used their recipe builder and ordered a few months of kits at a time.
Hopefully they will get this service back online again, otherwise I will have to find a company that does.
 
The Malt Miller has always been good for me. I had one issue which was resolved really quickly. Also made an order once and then realised that I had forgotten the yeast. Just ordered the yeast in a separate order. The MM guys added the two orders together and refunded the second delivery fee. Very reasonable practice and that's probably why I got there first.

It’s more of a faff, but the new website does let you order grains in 100g increments (min 500g) on the individual pages. So you could still put a recipe together albeit in different bags. Might run into difficulty if you were doing several with the same malts though I guess. I agree with you, it will be good to have the recipe builder back, it took me a while to start doing that but as you say much better than having odds and sods left over

I use the GEB custom grain kits and can’t fault them at all. I usually order 3 or 4 recipes at a time. My current APA is one of the best beers I’ve made and the grain sat, crushed, in my shed for 3 months.

Thanks for the recommendation, at least there is another option.
I am out of ingredients right now and want to do a brew in a week or two.

Assuming you have somewhere to store it and know you would use it while reasonably fresh. If not, custom kits are great, but yes you pay a bit more for the flexibility.

Is GEB the only supplier to do the custom recipe build thing at the moment?

Not for me it doesn’t. 25kg would be 6 brews (possibley wven 7), and I’d need to buy crystal etc. I do 9-12 brews a year and don’t have the luxury of being able to brew once a week or even once a fortnight. By the time I was to get to brew 6 it could have been sitting in my shed for 7 or 8 months so would definitely be past it’s best, especially since my shed can get pretty hot in summer months.

For the bit extra money I prefer to have half a dozen ready made kits, which have the exact malts and hops I want without compromising the original recipe.
On brew day I just go to the storage bin, pull out the bag of mixed malts and the foil packed hops and away I go.
No weighing and crushing, minimal storage space needed.
 
I'm in Blairgowrie now and have had the dreaded Highlands issue with a few shops the move from Dundee. John Lewis being one. They'd deliver a new dishwasher to the piddly little town of Coupar Angus, but not to Blairgowrie. It's 4 miles down the bloody road and a fat bigger town. It's not like I'm up a mountain.

Thankfully no issues with Geterbrewed.
 
I am acutely aware of delivery prices, living where I do....
I also use MM with great service, and also Worcester Hop Shop who sell ready made AG kits with plenty of choice. Sometimes I buy these and sometimes I buy the 25kg sacks of grain.
Delivery charge for up to 30kg is around 14 quid iirc, so options to include speciality grains and hops etc
Great service from both these companies

I told them that didn't really suit me. There was no "sorry for the inconvenience", in fact they didn't even reply to that. Poor customer service, and if I'd known that particular yeast was out of stock I could have changed my order to suit.

I have had that a couple of times and it doesn’t matter when you place the order it’s always on the thursday when they call you.

It’s only with yeast too, (that’s branded) never with grain, which leads me to wonder are you really getting the grain you order or do they substitute when needed?

I can't knock MM cos I've never used them, but I've noticed lots of folk rate them very highly. However... I've just had a look at their site and can't believe the prices! I mean, £37.50 for Munton's Propino when I got a sack elsewhere recently for 16 notes? Or Bestmaltz pale for £40 when I know someone else does it for 20 notes?? I mean, c'mon!
