Wonder if anyone can clear something up for me from Brew Your Own Real Ale At Home. The recipe in it for Guinness Extra Stout calls for 37g Challenger and 25g Target at the start of the boil but putting the figures into Brewer's Friend gives a much higher bitterness level than the book, 73IBU to 45EBU .
I tried searching the forum because it was in the back of my mind that I'd read something about this before but with no real success, is the difference coming from the standard of the hops they had available back then or is it something else? I'm guessing I can just scale the hop quantities back on BF until I get it to where I want the level to be so no real issue but thought I might be doing something totally wrong somewhere down the line.
