Quick question about oats

If using rolled oats do they need to be toasted first or can I just hoy them in the mash as they are?

Any difference in the end product of do either. Just wondering if toasting worth the hassle? It's for the totally tropical pale from James Morton's book.
 
What do untoasted oats add to the flavour/body of a brew?

cheers for replies. I'll just put in 'as is' as not wanting biscuity taste in an NEIPA style beer.
 
+1 to Bigcol, My Rye IPA used 5% Malted oats, but I usually go 10% cheap porridge oats
 
Just to say, I’ve spent ages going through long complex descriptions of using oats in beer and my head was spinning. I’ve just learned more in 30 seconds reading through this wee post than anything else! Nice one folks! Cheers
