This is a Review of a NEIPA kindly sent to me by Dan.

If I’m honest I think you could have be forgiven if you didn’t know this was supposed to be a NEIPA. it’s a good well rounded, smooth and hoppy IPA.

I think the hops jump out at you, but somehow seem a bit more restrained than some previous beers from Dan. Don’t get me wrong the bitterness is low, and the mouthfeel is smooth. But the hoppiness, it’s not right out there, and actually I suspect it’s not quite turned out as designed.

But I personally think it kinda works nicely as a standalone beer as it is. And if I was served this in a bar I really wouldn’t be disappointed. And I think you could develop this recipe further into something even better.

It’s clean and smooth beer with a haze and a nice hop and malt backbone. What’s not to love. Because I do [emoji1303]

Thanks Hoddy, you're absolutely right about the hops - Although its a hoppy brew, I thought they were a little bit more subdued than I was expecting from the get go, and they defo tailed off in the last few weeks.
I'm not sure if trying to go in between styles really works as its neither one thing or the other.

I'm thinking of trying a session strength NEIPA, to see if I can get loads of body, mouthfeel and hoppiness in a 4% beer - although probably should concentrate on trying to nail a standard one first :laugh8:

Hi Dan, I have just finished your NEIPA.

First off, I really enjoyed it. If I paid money in a bar or shop for this, I would be happy. It delivers.

It had a lovely haze to it and looked juicy. I didn't think it too dark at all, but maybe darker than some other NEIPAs I've seen but it was still a lovely orange colour, and it was carbed perfectly. It had a small head which receded but didn't disappear.

I got the lilt aroma that Leon got too, but also agree with Hoddy about the hops being restrained a little. What I got that the other two guys didn't, was a some bitterness. Not a bitter-bomb by any means, but a nice, well rounded bitterness.

I founded it a very well balanced ale, which delivered on many fronts. It can be frustrating if a brew turns out a little different from your original intention, but you've still made a cracking beer, and I hope you're pleased with it.

Thanks Marty - glad you liked it, and you're right about enjoying it for what it is, rather than worry about where it went wrong. It can't have been too bad coz its all gone now

Where does all the trub go?
I've had to take off just 5 x 500ml bottles of yeasty trub to get to this stage - i wanted to get rid of as much as possible before dry hopping this time to try to make the most of the 50g mosaic cryo powder I have.
I've only tried the cryo pellets before and can't decide whether to dump the powder in the top or add via the bottle??
Can anyone that's used it let me know if it stays in a lump when you open the vac packs?

Well the cryo powder came out in one big lump which made it nice and easy to get in the FS , but as feared it's floating like a hoppy pillow on the top. I'm hoping it'll break up fairly quickly, but I probably should have put it in in smaller chunks

You would hope as it soaks up the beer it will slowly break apart.

Keep us posted as I have cryo mosaic and citra to use.

It's taken 4-5 hours to get to this point , so yeah it does given a bit of time.

I do worry about dry hop suspension and if there is a way to help suspension to get the most out of a dry hop.

I know what you mean - no sooner have they broken up than they sink to the bottom. I just hope they give up most of their hoppy goodness in the process.

Last night I tried a little side by side comparison of my Chevallier brew with a bottle of Bishops Finger.
I never intended it to be in anyway similar and they are quite different, but it was really interesting to compare and contrast to a commercial example of a similar style - defo something I'll try to do with all my beers.

Yeah, it broke up OK and the fine bits sank pretty much straight to the bottom. I prefer the cryo pellets I'd tried before though.
Had a couple of pints of this last night and its pretty good - hoppy but not really full on, but I only used 50g

I was hoping to brew once a fortnight this year, but that's already gone out the window.
This should have been done last weekend but the grains didn't arrive in time.
Its a lovely day to brew today though - sunny and still. And if I get finished in time I might even get a rare visit to the pub!

How you storing it all Dan? I'd love to brew more, I like the brew day experience but don't have the space to brew much more than once a month or two. I can't afford kegs at the minute.

Whatever doesn't fit in a corny from each batch gets bottled, and I have room in the keezer for 2 cornys and a shelf of bottles.
It never lasts long enough to have a problem with storage :beer6:
